In light of the 21 straight winless game streak by Tampa Bay United’s girls ECNL teams at National events including ECNL SC, NJ and Champions Cup at San Diego, US Club Soccer has directed that all affiliated teams retire number 21 as a player number for US Club Soccer. The measure will apply across all platforms by US Club Soccer including ECNL, ECNL-R and NPL. Florida Club League like wise has adopted the measure and will also implement it within their framework, including Florida Cup, as well.
“21 winless games is an enormous embarrassment for any club, much less US Club Soccer, as we consider our ECNL platform the top in the country for girls youth soccer” according to a coach with Tampa Bay United, who wished to remain anonymous. “By retiring the number, US Club is hoping to erase the stigma and memory Tampa Bay United created before the 23-24 season - as well as serve as a reminder to all clubs what expectations playing under US Club Soccer encompasses.”
