How does ODP Alabama Camp Work?

The Florida teams train together with their coach and outside coaches, mostly college coaches who are working the Alabama camp to make some extra money. The Florida teams play other state teams in the southeast region. The players are identified in games and training evaluations (about 60 a day) and get pulled up to "try-out" for the region team. Over the week, players come and go until they have finalized which players will make the Region III Pool (about 60)in each age group. Then the Region teams are created for Boca, Costa Rica trip, etc. throughout the year from the Pool for various events.

Sometimes special players will stand out more on the second or third team. Players from the 2nd team do get called up to the regional training evaluation sessions but more from the first teams to get called up. There can be exceptional center defenders or goal keepers and one goes on 1st state team and one on 2nd team. At the ODP level they are all special and it is difficult to determine the state pool and teams let alone the region pool and 18 roster regional teams.

Parents and others can openly watch the games and training sessions. Often there are college coaches there scouting.

From experience wayyyy cheaper than a camp with much better competition as well as the boys living and playing together was a great experience. Most of the boys my son played with have committed to college programs ( not necessarily from ODP but great overall players ) He still talks about it often, highly recommend the experience ! DONT listen to the haters here

I agree. ODP has been a wonderful experience and my son has made a lot of new friendships all over the state. IDK why people bash everything either. In the end they are children and should look back at their youth with happy memories wherever they play this wonderful sport. Too much hate!.. My son got picked for regional camp and on the younger team so as long as your child enjoys the experience of playing with higher quality players from all around the state then it is a positive thing! Dont listen to nasty parents who are unhappy with their own life so have to cut down everything else. For the money...its worth it

Several parents have mentioned to me that anyone who shines on any of the teams could get called. The separation of ages is fantastic by really focusing on the older ones and younger ones and giving them a fair chance to show their abilities.

I love people that think they know everything about soccer. Odp this weekend for the girls side was very competitive. The assistant coach from university of Florida ran the 2004 girls session and did a great job. There are many national team players that came through odp Abby Wambach being one of them. The people on here that say it's a waste time, are the parents at a game screaming the play is offsides to the ref meanwhile it's a throw in. People are so hung up on this DA, news alert it's not working on the girls side. How about you do a little homework and look for DA scores for 2004 girls in Florida I believe one was 17-0. Look at the top clubs in the US for girls, dropping the DA program, they are going all in with ECNL. Some people are fortunate that these clubs that have ecnl are in there backyard. Others live very far from great clubs. Odp is a great opportunity for your kid don't let anybody tell you different. That person that tells you it's a waste of money is the same person paying some so called pro a $100 an hour to train there kid. To pay $625 for training and Alabama and get seen in front of coaches is a steal. Also go to a roster on any D1 girls program and read Bios on the girls and almost every one played Odp.
