This has to be a scam, has to be.
There is NO way these parents are this gullible. Is there?
This **** deserves a news story on straight up craziness.
AND the really crazy thing is that actual individuals are contributing.

Who would scam folks with a trip to Spain? Illness or hardship would be a good scam, not soccer.

I've been hit up for all kinds of things, including so called service trips (aka sightseeing boondoggles for teenagers). If you want your kid to go to Europe pay for it yourself. I will use my charitable dollars to actual charities that help people or organizations in need

When FC Barcelona wants a player, they pay for that player. Kids that have to pay to train with FC Barcelona have NO shot. It's like these fools that are spending $75,000 a year to attend the FCB DA residency program at Casa Grande in Arizona. It has nothing to do with developing players, it is about developing their brand and making money.

I think Barca would do their brand a favor if they asked their super special invitees to not raise funds for trips to train with them in Spain on gofundme.

I'm giving the family the benefit of the doubt. It's possible that they set up the fund raising page expecting to just tell friends, family and their local youth soccer community about it. Then some troll who frequents TS stumbled across it and figured they'd get a kick out of seeing this community tear these people apart once he posted it all over this board.

They shouldn't be doing it in the first place. There are ways to keep these things to your own circle of friends and family. Asking strangers for help in a crisis - medical emergency, sudden death of a parent, house fire....Funding a kids' trip to Europe? Then there's the insanity of sending someone so young to an overpriced program of little incremental value over countless programs here in the US. The kids probably won't even be playing soccer by high school

                        Seeking models

This reminds of those flyers you get in the mail "identifying your daughter as a young model/actor". Come to this location and in order to try out you only have to learn one line before you come. Please practice hard we will only be identifying the top talent. Miraculously your daughter is chosen among hundreds of morons that showed up. All you have to do is pay $6000 for a photo shoot and talent book. Once this process takes place our experts will market your daughter to the top modeling agencies in the world…

I'm sure your daughter is a great soccer player but there are about 50,000 great 10-year-old girl soccer players in this country. Save your money, practice and train locally, and see if YOUR DAUGHTER once to develop into a great player.

I would tend to agree. The fact that the family gave the girl a Messi jersey and said she would be going to Europe in a public setting is something on the parents, not the public. I am spending my money more wisely donating to causes of people hit by Irma and Marie and those affected in Mexico. It is a far better choice of funding and the parents should be shot for this.

There are worthy soccer charities for low income kids to try to give all kids some access to the game.

This is a luxury youth sport experience like so many other trips, clubs, leagues, tournaments in far flung locales, pricey gear, etc, etc, etc. Many youth sports are highly monetized by profit seeking ventures.

There is nothing wrong with that but these folks seem to have confused luxury and necessity if they asking strangers to fund a 10K trip to Europe.

There is a very good program in Boca Raton called Give N Go who provide equipment and services to underprivileged kids both here in abroad.
