What often happens, however, is that the player who made the verbal commitment changes his/her mind and goes elsewhere.

But it is completely wrong to say that "Colleges can show interest and that is about it at this stage." As mentioned, the coach can verbally commit to giving a player a scholarship at any time they choose.
Thank you for your post and for pointing out the fallacies of the other post. After having been through the process over the last year with my 2016, who committed over the summer, its so funny to see people post about things they know nothing about. I know as soon as we committed, the school was wanting us to send off information to the recruiting lists so that other schools will stay away.

The one thing that anyone, who has a dd who wants to play college soccer, is that SHE has to show the initial interest. Some of the top players will get contacted out of the blue by schools, obviously not directly but through the coach. But not many. The player has to show the interest and then see if the school recipricates. Too many people go to the showcases without sending out emails to the schools and then wonder why they get nothing back.

I possessed a MBA in Management and 5-years financial experience at a wholesale bank. In addition to my coaching qualifications. While I had a treasurer and bod the structure and budget was a mess when I started, however due to my education and back ground it was not too big of an issue to sort out and maintain financial viability.

Personally, I don't think that I am special rather more of a dime a dozen. but for some reason people without proper business qualifications are asked to run businesses that happen to be soccer clubs.
Sorry, but even DOC's that are educated with finacial backgrounds doesn't solve the inherent weakness in the process. There's no separation of duties. Soccer operations is one side, while the rest is left to the Board. For the most part, parents are idiots when it comes to soccer, while the DOC's (in general) are clueless to handling finances. But, you cannot have the DOC on the finance side making the budget (help yes, not prepare), writing checks, authorizing payments, etc... An audit team would rip the Club for allowing those powers without proper checks and balances. If you do it, great, but the method is wrong, unless there's other controls in place. You may be honest, but the next guy, not so much. A Board can still waste/steal money, but the probability is less, because there's more people around to watch the transactions. It still doesn't change my view that most DOC's are idiots when it comes to finances of the Club.

You mean takes the 11 players starting the second half aside to give them a rest and talk tactics while the subs go off to warm up and stay loose? That definitely NEVER NEVER happens. Especially not never in pro soccer. Your coach might not has the passion and is probably trying to steal the money if he is doing wrong.

no other players are screwing around

talking to classmates in the stands, some go to concession stand, seen some on cell phones. asking because other sports never seen anything like it. Im talking high school and the opponent's entire team are gathered at other side listening to their coach.

One important fact that is missing. When he pulled the eleven did he do it with the Passion?

sorry for some reason I stumbled on this site and didn't realize it was for middle school children to discuss soccer. had a question because my kid is new to this team and my oldest played several sports and never never seen a coach do this.

if yousa no trolling, 30 chillrins is ways too much for one futbol team. yousa coach is making the JV players watch the varcity game and at halftime he doesn't want them interrupting so they go do the normal halftime stuff all futbol fans do.

I would say we do not really know the underlying facts:

                      1. Is this a sub-varsity team?
                      2. Is there a requirement that everyone plays and there are no cuts?
                      3. Is this in a game or scrimmage?
                      4. Are there asst. coaches?

                      It would be unusual sure.

last year I recall seeing boys' coach leave the non-starting bench players and both keepers on the field during half time and took starters to locker room... it was winter, late eve. no one in the stands knew what was happening.

you are correct,,you don't matter at this moment. The coach has picked the top 11 and is discusing tactics. If you want to be part of that conversation make sure you are in that top 11. This happens often!!

You really need to re-write this post and clarify exactly what happened. It's confusing.

I.E., Penn St has a great soccer program and educational institution, but it can be very cold in November and a long way from home! Visit the schools she wants to attend. Get to know the coaches for the team. Some can be a nightmare to play under. Meet the players and get the "scoop" on the coaches. Visits can easily be arranged by the coach(s) as it happens all the time.

But there is no way your kid is a "2014 D-I commit and signing her NLI "in about a month". The 2014's signed in February of this year, and signing day is in February which is more like 3 months away. The 2014 college soccer season is over other than playoffs. Your player would still be a 2015 commit even if she goes to college right after the holidays during the spring semester of 2015. One more math course may not hurt! LOL
Hey dimwit... I'm the poster you responded to. I posted that in January 2014, which was "about one month" before my daughter signed her NLI. she just wrapped up her first season at the D1 school I mentioned.

Lucky for you it's an anonymous forum. Maybe instead of trying to poke holes in the honest posts of other people trying to offer actual experience you'd be better off to STFU.
