USSF's USSDA program has no finite number of clubs. No clubs would need to be dropped in order to add new clubs. A club may be voluntarily withdraw, or USSDA may retract sanctioning for sub-standards.

So, which club(s) were dropped? Or are you just guessing?
Clearwater will be dropped next. Poorly run, poor grades.

If they do this the right way, state cup will stop being the measuring stick for the top older boys since the best U16-U18 players will be playing in the Academy teams and many of the pre-academy players will be playing up an age. It takes an adjustment of expectations to focus on player development and style of play, not just match results.

        Fundamental USSDA structure is a U14 pre-academy team, a U15/U16 team, and a U17/U18 team.

        Teams:

Academy clubs must field 1 team in each of the 2 Academy mixed-age groups: U-15/16 and U-17/18.

        Age Groups:

U-15/16: Players born on or after 1/1/1995
U-17/18: Players born on or after 1/1/1993
        Players can always 'play up'.

Beginning with 2012-13, players on USSDA teams will be prohibited from participating in high school soccer (USSDA players in private high schools based on a soccer "scholarship" are a "sticky wicket").

No guessing at all. This is a quote from US Development Academy:

In April, the Development Academy announced the additions of the Montreal Impact and Portland Timbers for the 2012-13 season. With San Juan and Orlando City joining, the U.S. Soccer Development Academy field remains at 80 teams as two current clubs are not returning next season.

There you have it. Two spots opened up and OC was next in line. Simple as that. San Juan I believe replaced CDA, but not sure.

Doesn't say "two clubs were dropped" (by USSDA). It says, "two current clubs are not returning next season".

It would make sense if OC was the next to get an academy. That would be great for them, but people go on TS and act like that will be the end of all other clubs in Orlando. There is only one team at each group, that leaves a lot of pretty good soccer players to still need a team. if you look at other areas like Miami for example, Coral Gables has some amazing teams and they are not an academy. However I am curious why they would award it to OC when technically there have been no youth games played or teams formed other than super Y under OC. I'm sure they will get it but should be a year after they have run a youth program. I guess if they already got it then it is CFK that they were awarding it to.

                  Why only two teams?

So this will really only benifit the boys at born in 1995 and 1993 for this next year?

wouldn't most of the 93's be gone already by next year? Seniors graduating? Maybe these dates change for 2012/2013.

Because they are out to get you.

from zero to two and complaints and questions begin...

It was just announced so how about some patience?

Correct, you might have been thinking of ECNL which starts earlier for girls. Also this is only 2 teams & and I think only 18 boys rostered on each team. There will be plenty of good players playing on other teams besides DA. Also it will be extremely costly to play on one of the academy teams and time consuming. It's a huge commitment by player and parents. That would be great if OC gets it, great for this area.

Where was it officially announced other than TS. Obviously if they did get it, CFK got it which will soon be OC. Now we all know that OC is really all the CFK guys, but it technically should be awarded to CFK like ECNL was.

This was awarded to Orlando City. It is on the US academy website. OC gets academy, so you can stop with the jabs trying to make trouble. It is alone deal. If CFk could have gotten academy without Orlando City, they probably wouldn't have merged. It is an amazing thing that sould the better u15- u18 together. I read they combine the best of two age groups usually to form one team.

The Development Academy application was a joint venture with the Rush, the two clubs will be pooling their best talent to represent Orlando City in the DA League

Well obviously if OC got it their name helped, but there are no teams technically at OC yet. The academy awarded to them from success of CFK. They dont hand it out to just any club because of its name, much more goes into the decision than that.
