Former NEFC coaches poaching for Surf

NEFC has notified several former coaches (now Surf coaches) that they are in breach of contract for poaching. They are threatening legal action if they sign NEFC players to Surf. Also stating that they may take action to prevent the players from playing for Surf. So, now what?

Omg! This is hilarious because NEFC is known for poaching players from Bayside, Bruno, Liverpool and SRI academy. Now THEY are mad that their coaches are doing it for Surf? Good one. Karma!

Come on, it’s all about $$$. NEFC losing players which means losing $$$.
NEFC coaches moving to surf for more $$$. How can it be about the kids when Surf will be playing in a less competitive leagues. These coaches are just using our kids for their own benefit which is again $$$$. Club soccer is a scam

Yes, well he didn't include a copy of that alleged non-compete agreement, which might have been informative. I suspect the way Surf is staying away from NEP is a way around whatever language may have been in any signed agreement.

So first, the president of NEFC screwed up by sending an email to everyone with everyone's email addresses clearly visible. Then he included PII in the attachments. The body of the email was an apparent veiled threat to families of Southeast families, and a number of people who sound a lot smarter than BM have copy-all'd with scathing responses. It was sent at 9:30pm tonight, so it gives the impression a cocktail or two had been consumed prior to hitting send. It's a thoroughly entertaining situation.

For what it's worth, my kids' coaches didn't do anything other than communicate that they had left and where they were going. It was a very intentional-sounding effort to NOT invite players to join them. But a lot have decided to follow nonetheless because the kids (and parents) are very happy with the coaches.

I thought it was pretty odd that one of the attachments he included was GPS's lawsuit against Surf. What does that have to do with NEFC and their former coaches' alleged "poaching"?

                  Hi NEFC families,

I write this letter to alert you -- the parents of one or more NEFC players -- to a developing situation that may affect you and your children.

NEFC has learned from various sources, including a number of NEFC parents, that several recently-resigned NEFC coaches may be trying to poach NEFC players for the benefit of another club.* This kind of poaching is not only wrong, it violates the coaches' agreements with NEFC.* We recently alerted those coaches of our concerns by means of the attached letters.

We are hopeful the coaches will abide by their agreements with us, including the non-poaching obligations those agreements establish. If the coaches elect not to, however, NEFC is prepared to file a lawsuit and seek damages and injunctive relief from them.* This litigation will likely disrupt the upcoming season, including the seasons of any players who transfer to the other club because of the poaching.

Thank you for your continuing commitment to NEFC.*

                  Regards,

                  Brian Mazar - President, NEFC

Makes no sense! NEFC has been poaching for years! I know of them courting players from other clubs for months. They get parents to “scout” for them too. They do a lot of shady dealings but use the willing parents to hide behind. They coined poaching in this area and now they are getting a dose.

The greatest email of all time.

What is even better is LR groveling to NEFC to keep his daughter on the GA team. Or is it that they were dumb enough to pay him 15k? Or is it that they were dumb enough to actually pay JP & SK?

Honestly all this troll talk is pretty overblown. At the ages where it matters, the top SE players have mostly already paved their roads to GA/ECNL. For those younger than that, continuing to play with your teammates and coach isn't a bad thing if things are already going well. The competition in the leagues is really kind of a secondary consideration.

Is that true for the players that were on npl teams? Don't you think it may be more difficult for the younger ones or late bloomers to get on to these higher level teams playing at this lower level? I would think at u11and u12 it would be important to play as high a level as possible to reach that pathway.

Excellent point. The previous poster was dishonest. If you want a higher level, than it helps immensely to be staged correctly at u11 to u12. Why in the world would you take two steps back at that point?
