    2019 HS Soccer

Interesting story at the D3 level..

Reminded me of the disparity between LSA and eveyone else in RIIL in girls soccer..and to lesser extent on the boys side.

Things are coming back to the middle. The best RI soccer players are going to prep schools or academy. LaSalle is getting the leftovers. Public schools staying the same. Different world now.

I am pretty familiar with the top girls RI high school soccer players in the state, and there are almost NONE going to prep. A few are on GDA without waivers, but 99% of them will be playing in RIIL this fall.

Are all the best players rich, or is there some secret athletic financial aid out there? It's not like LaSalle is cheap either.

Best RI players are playing high school soccer in RIIL. Your statement may have been closer to the truth a few years ago but with DA defections most are playing HS soccer.

There is plenty of financial aid out there at the preps. Those schools are not bound by RIIL regulations and can dole out whatever aid to whomever they want. Worcester Academy is very generous with financial aid to athletes.

You don’t believe 7 to 9 RI players playing in the DA is a big deal? All of them Allstate caliber.
Including head and shoulders the best player in the State. Put her back on the Lasalle roster and it’s another undefeated championship season for them. I think you drastically understate the affects.

No Tolman in the top teams? What did the Barrios twinns go to Prep School?
Luis Blanco --Gaterade-- will enroll at FranklinPierce.

Poster has a point here; not up on the who's who in terms of DA, but having the likely POY if you are LSA pretty much makes it another ho hum outcome, especially when the league has trended to becoming a fairly weak offensive league (or strong defense if you want to look at the glass half full). The low scoring trend means one of the contenders can shoot for a PK decision - add the best dynamic player in the state to LSA and it's just about who will get the runner up opportunity.

Since the boys side is more physical and chippier (not that girls can't play that way, but it's just slower so talent can break through more than on the boys side), you can have a Shea or North/South Kingstown type team win now and then.

Here come the BS excuses already. "If so and so played we would've won, been undefeated, blah blah blah." Team game last I checked. One or even two players aren't going to make that big of a difference in RIIL soccer that's for sure. And... these players that are going on to another level are good for RI players but not that good when you take them out of this little fish bowl of ours. Big ocean out there and barely a handful can match up to those players from other states.

The 2014 and 2016 Portsmouth state championships beg to differ on the "one or even two players aren't going to make that big of a difference"..and for the older folks the 2006 (?) Scituate team..

and this thread is on RI high school league championship..we are all aware were RI (and for that part New England) stacks in the bigger picture of elite player pool development.
