I agree with this statement.
To add to that, I have seen a few from Rec teams that can fit on most of your pay to play Premier teams. This is what soccer has become.

Agreed. My daughter's team was fortunate enough to make the final four, yet every school in D1 has at least a single player that could fit in and likely have a chance of starting on even the best teams in RI high school D1 (or at least getting substantial time)- especially since no program was head and shoulders above the entire field, undefeated season included. Individual talent doesn't stop at the town line just because some teams have better overall programs. I have seen some of these players do well on premier teams, but can only feel sorry for them watching them try and hold together their teams with nothing more than a rec squad around them!

I’d say the best girl players in RI play for either Stars ECNL, NEFC DA/NPL, Bayside NPL (some age groups) and NEFC South Regional (some age groups). Of course there a few other exceptions on other local teams, but those are the high level teams with most of the high level RI players.

How many RI players are playing for Scorpions ECNL? Serious question.

Prep schools are not club teams. Not relevant to the discussion. My guess is that most all prep players are also playing club somewhere.

Depends on the age group or girls or boys. JM has two NPL level South Regional teams with a number of RI players.

And Metro South and Southeast are two separate regions that combine for top teams and is called South Regional.

JM is a decent coach, no doubt. When you look at his team they really aren't that good with the exception of a handful.

His 04 is pretty strong top to bottom. His 01 is more uneven. But the point was that some of the stronger RI players play on the team list previously posted, and thats includes NEFC South Regional NPL teams in those certain age groups. But yeah, the best of the best are on the Stars ECNL and the NEFC DA & NPL teams.

I agree about the 04 team. O1 team is very uneven for sure. When you look at that team individually the players are so-so.

Well by the math that is not true..but I agree with your overall point and LSA has fallen from its general dominance (the Portsmouth team with a certain player aside) - kind of strange to feel that way about an undefeated team that only gave up 1 goal so perhaps more a reflection on the general decline in terms of high school play on the girls' side.

Why feel sorry - take the example of Christian Pulisic. When asked why he opted (before jumping full time overseas) he stayed with a "lesser" club team when invited to play with a "higher" club DA team, the point was being the biggest fish made him work harder and be more creative than if he was confined by being more of a role player on an all star higher DA level team.

Again, don't see all the teams in D1 (or more than just once or twice), but the D1 games I saw it seems the "best" players don't rise on a *consistent* basis, especially given the variability in talent when you get past the top few teams in D1. Hard to pin down - maybe it's the fall, maybe it's too many games packed into the season with other factors like academics, maybe it's a bit of coaching as we are not privy to what the coach is telling players to do... Goal scoring was pathetic in D1 and if coaches on the whole knew how to teach set piece defense (since they seem on balance not to teach set piece offense), it would be even worse.

Maybe it's just the defenders are shining (although saw a lot of suspect defense as well that was saved by even more suspect offensive play) more.. but high school, in addition to being a great opportunity for players who love the game to extend beyond where they would have been kicked out of the path in other countries (like my youngest), should be where the better players really show some more at least at the individual level and do help bring up the team - maybe I'm just remembering more of the better play from a 6-8 years ago when my oldest D played.

i'm assuming these really strong players on ECNL and DA did not play RI high school this year, correct, since there definitely were no elite studs out there?
