Be Patient
Coach will have some time, she is going to have a lot of turnover this year with a big senior class leaving. The two that left for greener pastures were good but would have made little difference this season. MN abandoned the team the year before he left and did not put a pipeline in place. As for foreign players - very hit or miss. Coaches only really recruit by video. US has much more talent. A program like RI should continue to develop a pipeline to NJ and Mass. RI has never been known as a talent rich state for soccer mostly because of its size and URI is not in a position to bring in a 4 or 5 star recruit at this point anyway. She knows what to do - establish a system and recruit players into it, but easier said than done. In fairness to MJ, no way was this team going to work out this season.
P.S. for those who don’t know - D1 scholarships are a one year commitment for the player and the school. I know that MN had free reign to cut players in his first season or two but generally had to renew kids he recruited. Scholarships are generally a progression based on development at the college level. They are also integrated with academic money. My daughter no longer plays for URI but did graduate and enjoyed her time at the school - and it paid off in the work world, which is what this is all about for the players.
