    URI woman’s soccer

Both girls who transferred are doing great at their schools! They are enjoying the academics as well as great soccer! Both teams are doing well! Great choice made by them. We wish them all the best.

In fact, the one at UNH scored the deciding goal against URI this year...

Why wait? Because if you are trying to attract good coaches, firing them for non-cause (ie. misconduct) reason after just a year with barely one recruiting class under the coaches' belt.

Perhaps you don't get the seemingly long leash like SP at Bryant, but hard to get a decent coach to take a chance on a losing program (which is generally where most vacancies are!) if the AD is going to pull the rug out over a couple of losing seasons during the transition.

At URI, GE on the men's side went 2-14 his first season; granted the team had a great season in year 2 so I'm sure that bought him some time with the AD. The points raised about implementing a system and finding players to fit the system are valid, but I would suspect the coach is writing off the season in terms of trying to figure out how to fit her vision into the current talent and instead seeing how the younger players do or do not fit that vision.

Look, we are not talking about a top 20 program or players looking to make the national team or pro so it might be attractive for the B+/A- incoming recruit to have a shot at lots of playing time. If there is squabbling among the coaches, that's on the head coach (she hired him didn't she?)

How many seasons can you possibly write off before everyone just throws in the towel??

URI accepts losing so she is safe. Look at the money wasted, for years now, on football program. She needs to stay away from any and all RI recruits. What she has and what is in state now as possible..... yikes

What a moronic statement. RI players are few but they hold their own against players around NE. I would say is recruit more SA and European players. Add some NE players as supporting cast. Look at the success on the men’s side.

We need to be fair... the coach is entering only her second full year on the job... she has had only one recruiting class... We don't really know what her vision is (or what kind of coach she will be) for a few more years... I don't think it is wrong to allow a coach the opportunity to grow into the job... Taking a long view is ok.

If she is arguing with her assistants, that may be a sign the losing it getting to her.

With regard to her first recruiting class, how have they performed when given the opportunity. I believe 3 or 4 of them are seeing regular time. How have they done?

This is clearly a rebuild and letting the sophs and juniors play will let her know what she has and what her needs will likely be in the coming seasons. Turning the program around won't be quick...

Yes, a couple of the top players on the men's side are RI kids but you are right on the European recruits - GE has spent quite a bit of time and effort to get German and Scandinavian players.

Women's side had a run of Iceland players - maybe need to look beyond there..also transfers from programs where the younger kids aren't getting any playing time. Not sure on SA female players -- Germany and Canada may be good areas to recruit.

I don’t now what the attraction to European women players is. I’ve seen URI play and their tall Euro players up front and in the midfield did nothing. There are better players from R.I. playing D1 soccer right now. KV is a star at UMass Lowell and there are many others that URI never even glanced at.

The sad part is MN coached KV at the club level but never recognized her talents.

It doesn’t help that he lied to her when he offered her then when the NLI showed up it wasn’t what he offered verbally.

Big difference between men and women's game, moron! Stick to badminton or tennis, whatever the hell you grew up playing.

Anyone left on that roster recruited by MN should have been weeded out already. He knew he was on the way out and gave some gifts to RI kids.

Just because players are European doesn't mean they are good. Especially on the Women's side. One thing is to recruit them the other matter is getting them here.

Women's side is still relatively new to Europe. US Women's soccer is more advance, however, does seem to be deteriorating.

If she is given a chance it should be one more year and that's it.

And a few of these players are D2 and D3 at best. Don't know about this years Fr class. But Soph's and Jr. class... reassess and cut losses.
The final score doesn't represent how much St. Louis dominated the game last night... URI was outshot 40(!) to 2 and 14 to 1 on goal. One St. Louis players had 2 shots / 1 one goal in just 14 minutes. URI managed to earn only 1(!) corner kick compared to 21. Amazingly the score was only 1 - 0.

I've heard that the team really doesn't work on the offense during practice and the statistics certainly bear that out.
