Originally posted by Unregistered View PostNot the OP you responded to. Having seen teams coached and "developed" by former goalkeepers, URI will absolutely underperform. Teams tend to take on the focus and style of the coach and that is colored by the coach's background and knowledge. What do most keepers know about attacking play and building teams offensively? Very little. Watch URI become a very defensive program with little to speak about with regards to scoring and offensive development.

What this doesn't take into account is the the years that this coach has been training under other coaches both as a player and as an assistant. Combining best practices from a life time of experience both good and bad are the hallmark of a self-improvement and of coaching gives this person a leg up on a coach without this experience. Perhaps if this person was a third year goal keeper coach then there might be some reservation but this person has oodles of experience. It is also naive to judge and generalize a coach by the field position they played, former athletic ability, or physical appearance. Coach K and Coach Belicheck are prime examples that it's the fundamental to lead, coach, identify and recruit talent that are important and not the ability to bend a shot into the upper 90. I'm also pleased to see the coaching hire was a woman. It at least shows a career path for some young woman playing the game. Nice hire Bjorn!
Thank you and have a wonderful day!

And for your coaching exp. comment, 1 job for nine years at an ACC school that is private, doesn't quite prepare you for the Mid Major, under funded, state school that relies heavily on fundraising. Basically she has only been exposed to one style of coaching that once again was in the ACC, Private and funded...... Oh and by the way, this is being typed by a Woman, that is a college coach, so before you come back with some idiotic argument, I earned my job.
Thank you and have a wonderful day!
