U9B Bayside FC vs. NEFC Premier South

Very new to this, so I have a few questions.
My son just tried out and got selected for the U9B Bayside FC and the NEFC Premier South teams.
I'm trying to figure out which one would be better for both him as a player, and us, the parents, in regards to the logistics. We live in Bristol County, RI.
Where the training be held for either of these teams? He did the indoor RDC with the NEFC in Somerset and Sherwood, so I'm assuming that's where the team practices will be held as well.
Where does the Bayside FC train?
Which team is stronger? Are there several Bayside FC U9B teams, or just one? The Bayside website is less then user-friendly.
    Thanks for the feedback.

No one knows which team is stronger since there are no u8's teams currently playing club unless they played up.
Your better off selecting location rather than team. Both are good clubs and will play to develop.
    Good luck to your kid

At that age find out who is going to be his coach. I would weight my decision solely on technical training and philosophy of the coaches. If AV, PM or MS is the coach assigned to the team you are in good hand at Bayside. AV by far the best technical/skill development coach in RI.

        Thank you for your replies!
PM is the coach at Bayside FC.
Do you know where the Bayside FC U9B teams train? I couldn't get access to the coach yesterday, it was very hectic. Logistics is very important to us, as we both have day jobs.
Just found out our son was also picked for the GPS RI North Elite 2007 team, but driving him to Smithfield from the East Bay is not an option, so we'll have to pass on that.

I believe the team practice at Bayside FC Stadium for Fall/Spring and Sherwood or WWIS for winter.

Do you mean NEFC Southeast? (No Premier South teams until U14). If you do mean Southeast, chances are your training will be some combination of Seekonk, Fall River & Taunton.

Here's the email quote from the NEFC Southeast Technical Director S.C. :

NEFC Boys 2008/U9 Southeast Elite Offer
Congratulations! Id like to offer you a roster spot on my rising 2008 Boys U9 NEFC Premier South roster.

Is this the same thing as the NEFC SOUTHEAST? Is there a NEFC U9 Elite team, and what does it me? Sorry for all the newb questions...if I could find the answers on my own, I would. :)

I see why you are confused. Not sure why they are referring to the team as Premier South, as if you look at their coaching assignments, the team is listed as Southeast Elite Red, with no Premier South teams coming in until U14. Of course, maybe something has changed with their new structure since that was published. Either way, it appears that no matter what it's called, the offer is for the Southeast regions top team in that age group.

My U9 son just received the same offer from Bayside with PM as the coach. This is my first time going through this and did not know whether this was the top team or if they had more than one.

At this age don't worry so much about being on the top team. It will sort out as they progress. Having a good coach that will teach them the skills needed to be successful at U12 and up is the goal. I have players initially join the team with limited skill and work they way up to becoming good technical players which in the long run will help them play at the highest level in the older age groups.

                      Thanks again for your replies!
Is the NEFC Southeast Elite Red their top U9 team?

I'm also wandering about Bayside FC's structure. How many U9 teams do they have? It was tough to get a hold of a coach at try-outs, they were quite busy. Their location is perfect for us logistically, but I don't want my son to be a bench-warmer

At this age no one is a bench warmer. All clubs are encouraged to play 50/50 so your son will play 50% of the time. My understanding is Bayside will carry 2 U9 and U10. The goal is to get the younger age groups technical training to hopefully prepare them for the U12 DA program. I'm sure NEFC has the same goal with their program. Each club you decided to go with are good options. However as you stated if your son is fortunate to make the DA program and travel is a concern then Bayside may be a better option since NEFC DA program practice in Marlboro, MA.

Please don't listen to this advice. Having had children on B teams, it is absolutely not worth the price of admission. B/C teams suffer from the following: lack of numbers to play matches, low parent/player commitment, low player skill, 2nd/3rd tier coaches.

And yet, the club will ask you to pay the same price as the A team participants. Same price, very different quality of product. My suggestion is try out with as many clubs as you can that fit your budget and location and only accept offers where you make an A team. Do your due diligence on the the coaches for the teams you get offered. Bottom line is you could play for much cheaper clubs and get development through academies, clinics, and camps and get a much better product while paying less than B/C teams at the big clubs.

Have you ever thought sometimes little Donavan and little Mia aren't developed at the same level and need time to acquire their skills. Sometimes some parents have an unrealistic expectation of their kids skills. If you really want to save money my advise is to found a town club and play there. Some towns actually have some decent coaches.

                              Hi.
I have several children and they have played for different clubs.

I'd go w/ NEFC, they are regionally structured and there is no reason to travel far
with a 9 year old - save that for when he's older!

Second, its the most organized club we've experienced to date.

Third, they have a very clear structure (if you go to the NEFC web site you can see team / levels) so you can see where you son can grow to as he gets older.

Lastly, good coaching and much included (like technical training nights) at no extra cost.

                              Hope that helps.
