Three cheers for these teams for winning RI Cup.

They didn't have to play in the second division at Nationals.

I'm just saying, please look at the 'National Champions' or finalists and remember what it actually means. Go ahead and advertise that the teams are ri champs, but these are not some of the best teams in the country.
I don't think anyone here said they were "National Champions!" but rather winning the "National Cup", which is a national tournament. And the second division, it's more like D1 vs D2 in high school/college. Of course the D2 champion teams are not usually better than then D1 teams, but they still can win on a national level. All this vitriol about local teams in one tournament is sad. I rooted for ALL our local New England teams when they play on a national level, regardless who they play.

      This isn't true.

NEFC Southeast has promoted it as a National Championship, as has the club as a whole.

And it's not like D1 and D2. All these teams play against each other. In HS, the divisions barely if ever play against each other, it's all school size and program size so you know you're playing against schools of the same size.

In this case, it was teams that qualified for the National Cup who didn't want to play at the higher level so they put themselves in a lower division.

Now they're National Champions and finalists.

I'm just calling it for what it is.

Good job for winning RI State Cup, but don't call yourselves national champions so that it looks good on the website in marketing and coach resumes.

Hilarious. As if Bayside would not do the same (if they were able to get out of their bracket). I spoke to many Bayside folk before they left, and they kept saying they were going to Nationals. I never felt the need to correct them. Perhaps marketing your national success is why NEFC is kicking your butt in RI even with their B & C teams.
