Any parent with any understanding will not participate in this. A joke of a staff for starters.

Top players will go to Bayside as that is where the best coaches are, they also have the best track record in regards to player development - current players at Revs / US National team

Bruno will be fine and GPS will continue to poach town teams

Agreed to an extent. Bayside's staff is nothing to write home about overall. But they have a couple of strong coaches.

ESPA, I mean, the Rush, have a terrible coaching staff.

They don't have good coaches, I would be interested to see if they have a merger or town relationship up their sleeves, because the likelihood of success is very low.

Are you saying 3 players called up to BNT and 2 national U17 team credited to Bayside is not impressive. Name any clubs in New England that have that type of success. Please name one. Small state small mind but please give credit when credit is due. Bayside was recently awarded U12 DAP because US Soccer recognized the contribution Bayside to the national program.

You should credit their town programs like North Attleboro and Providence before BaysideFc. The boys from Providence were not at BaysideFC for that long to be developed.Bayside provided those boys acces to regional play at that point they were noticed by the Revs.

CT resident chiming in on this one. Sounds like the guy setting up RI Rush is much like the one running CT - guy has been around a long time but never stays at one place for long and is always chasing after $$$. Only one of their branches has done much of anything and that's more because they landed a sweet spot for location. They feed off travel programs. Players with any talent quickly move up to better clubs.

You are probably 100% correct. The reality is that Premier soccer is no longer premier . When Soccer RI let GPS it was just a matter of time before more clubs would come in and attract low level club players .

There are many parents who will pay more for the name and for the hope that their kids will get better than what they have at the town level.

Soccer RI and the town programs keep shooting themselves in the foot . They are letting these clubs in which is watering down the club scene. They are also not following up on complaints about the politics and lack of coaching in their town programs.
Rush is here to stay !

Here is my question... is this a RI problem or is the proliferation of premier soccer a nationwide scourge? How many premier clubs exist in states with similar populations (New Hampshire, Maine, Montana, Delaware). It seems to me there are far too many premier clubs trying to make a living in RI.

Grass is always greener on the other side. Easy picking for the big clubs from outside of RI.

I sometimes poke around on some of the other state threads and it seems to be a very common theme - too many clubs, many of them doing a poor job. Kids who would have been in decent travel programs just a few years ago getting pulled into mediocre "premier" programs. Yes as a consumer it's good to have options, but when many of the options are garbage are you really better off?

I think parents are tired of the politics and lack of quality coaches. These are the main reasons many parents rather foot the bill to ensure that their kids have s fair shake of moving up the latter and earning playing time. My own experience dealing with local politics have left me with no other options. I believe I am a fair talent evaluator and if my kid does not deserve to be on the team I will tell him so. I don't believe in promoting my kid. He has to promote himself through hard work and compete for playing time. If not we all are setting our kids for failure.

It's all supply and demand. Let it play out. If there is demand for another RI premier club players will sign up. If there isn't they won't. RI Rush doesn't have a single team assembled yet.

Sorry but going the club route is no better. I watched a big club practice at WWIS with three young coaches. The coaches looked like they could play and probably know more than your average American dad coach . The issues I saw was that there had 3 teams on one field. The average skill level of these kids was bad. There were many players who looked uncoordinated and out of shape .

Do you really thinks these poor , young foreign coaches are going to give you a fair assessment on your daughter or sons skill? Nope . They need your money so they can pay their bills.

That's on the parent and the child to determine if they are getting quality instruction and development. If not, then choose a different club. More competition and choice is a good thing.

I can tell you the problem with town in most cases is limited choice in teams/coaches and limited ability to move. In SCSL (MA), town players have to get signed waivers from DoC's to play for another town and the politics of that are a whole different conversation. Added to that, you might have one team per age group/gender and the coach and quality of the team varies considerably. Club soccer gives you more options to choose from, it is up to the consumer to determine if it is worth it.

Not happy with the coach? Change clubs. Not happy with the quality of player on a team? Change clubs. Not happy with the developmental philosophy (or lack thereof) of the club? You know where I'm going with this.

As far as RI Rush goes, I think JD has done a good job with ESPA. Better technical skill development than most academies I've seen/had kids participate in and certainly better than any town program I've seen. If he can translate that focus on technical development to Rush, they'll do just fine.

There is truth to this post. Town programs tend to be rife with politics, parent coaches, board member's kids. Tends to be less of that at the club level.

                                RI Rush

Hello every one... I just joined RI Rush. I am a qualified coach, not young wish I was ha.ha
Also coach high school. I`m not coming over from Joe`s coaching crew. I love soccer and love to coach. I really develop players and I care about kids. I want every player to get better and enjoy soccer. Yes there is a lot of clubs , I think that is good. They have different levels. If your child is good they can join ODP, or a clubs that has an A team, or NPL team. If you want your child to make a high school team they should play club soccer. The town teams where I coach hardly develop any talent or players good enough for high school. Find a coach you like & your kid likes that`s the biggest thing. My daughter play`s on a different club. She will be staying because it is the right fit. Don`t like a club don`t join...don`t like the coach don`t stay. Good luck with your currant team or good luck finding a club.
