Four games in to the WC and I've yet to be impressed by the US squad. Yes, the defense and the goaltending have been excellent, but the mid-field play is sloppy and disorganized and the ability to finish is woeful. Last night the US women scored one on-field goal and only after Columbia went a woman-down (the other goal came on a PK).
With the increasing caliber of the teams to come, China (without Rapino and Holliday) and then France-Germany, I see little chance of the US surviving the next 2 games to make the finals, let alone winning the Cup. I can easily see these teams making short work of the sloppy US midfield passing - especially France and Germany.
I also think that Wambach should be coming off the bench in the 2nd half after some younger faster players have had a chance to wear out the legs of the defense. Then put Wambach in and see if the defense can still jump with her.
