Could be right. I thought this was a prime year for a public to catch them. Who do we like for publics next year? Cumberland seemed like an early favorite this year but I know they are losing a lot of seniors who played? Mt. Hope? Who is looking strong next year from the South. Also wondering what D1 will look like next year. Rumor is that the coaches are all pushing for a table conference of seventeen to eighteen teams with no divisions, similar to what the boys do.

I disagree with the author of the article. His team Coventry Girls soccer should move to D1. The team has many years of success at D2 and his high school population and player pool population is large. Staying in D2 doesn't allow a lot of good players and teams know where they rank against the best.

Not sure what your comments have to do with the article, but hey a chance to voice your unhappiness with the Coventry program.

This topic has been discussed for many years and is not just a RI issue. In fact RI has taken some action to adjust the manner in which it calculates which schools fall into D1, 2, 3 taking into account past records, but it has no impact on the privates that are already at the top of D1. Organize a boycott of the top private schools and you'll get some attention really quick.

The poster had a good point. You can probably have 35 other HS coaches write in with the same letter and the author wouldn't make a difference. But Coventry's propensity to sandbag and stay down in Division 2 is no different than the privates trying to gain an unfair advantage.

I would venture to guess that Coventry soccer girls would relish the opportunity to play D1 against the private schools. Most public school athletes like the challenge of playing LaSalle. I know i looked forward to those games when I played. In reverse, if I were a LaSalle player I'd have to wonder why my school didn't play against other private schools and that presented more of a challenge. True competitors want to play the best competition out there.

It's because the coaches have figured out a way to combine their club players and school only players and create a winning team. Smithfield girls, Cumberland girls, NK boys, Shea boys, Portsmouth girls always seem to be in the mix.

A strong feeder program from town soccer and the middle school is a big help. But neither is a guarantee of wins once kids get to the high school. Lincoln is a good example of having a strong town and middle school program that fails at the varsity level. Similar sized town as Smithfield. Similar level of losses to private schools. Both have great town programs and great middle school programs. Yet Smithfield is in the mix every year and Lincoln wins only 2 games. The difference is the coaching.

Lasalle girls are a good example of how having a bad coach can negate having the biggest talent pool. It's all about the coach.
Did some checking on the NK girls coach. Turned out to be very hard because most of his supposed resume' is fiction! US soccer hasn't heard of him so no higher licenses. No record of him at his alleged D1 school or professional team. Explains a lot.

Would be nice for you to share what you learned! Share your results with the AD as well as the ProJo. Time to put that clown on the defensive (which is tough because he has not clue how to coach defense)

Well..apparently their principal and AD do not share the same sentiment..they must feel the girls prefer beating up most d2 opponents regularly..

Lame. Coventry is the biggest high school in RI.
