My son plays for a town team that has a select component but I am not sure if I want him to play for the coach that they have slotted for that team.
Looking for suggestions on how to go about tryouts.

I live in northern ri so my choices are rips,lusitania,strikers or go to a mass club like spartans, Liverpool or fuller.
He is 10 years old and one of the top 3 on his current team

Go to as many tryouts as you can fit into your schedule. Then pick the best team that your son can make. Playing with the best players and playing against the best teams will offer the most development of your son's game. The best teams typically have the best coaches.

It's not complicated. Go to the individual club's website. Find tryout date, time, location for your kid's age group. Go there. Bring kid. Duh.

Bingo...and while you can't always get a definite answer, ask who they intend to be the u11 coach. Also, if it fits, go watch one match for as many of the leading club's current u10 team to see how the coach (and parents) are -- and how he or she plays/treats kids (at that age you should be getting fairly equal playing time).

Be realistic about your son's skill level. If he is looking for more development then I would suggest that you don't burn bridges along the way. If he is on a team competing in Superliga now, by looking at the Superliga website none of the northern clubs have teams playing Anchor division so he may not be exposed to top soccer yet. However, the focus is to expose him to top level training and competition you should be open to playing both Superliga and premier.

About 750-800$ with RI Strikers, they don't pay for fields. Use Deerfield in Smithfield
