    ^^^^^This

If they're going to have an all-state list, it should include 4 defenders, 3 mids, 3 forwards and a goalie to represent the true complexion of a team.

We don't have a stat to measure defensive ability, so we end up with one each year and 10 goal scorers because you just look at the numbers, not the games played. It's quite ridiculous.

If you are a talented back or holding mid in HS you have no chance of being recognized on these lists although it's likely you'll have more of a future in college soccer than the D3 35-goal scorer.

The simple truth is that in soccer, goals scored is what people want to see. It's like what's become of Major League baseball. Hit home runs. That's what people want and that's what players are recognized for. Every year, some of the players at the top of the PROJO goals scored list end up playing D1, many on scholarship. Of course some defenders and mids end up at D1 as well, and often, they get recognized on the Projo All State list as well if they're really good. But with only 2-3 players going on to D1 soccer each year, every one that I can remember over the last 5-6 years has been a first team all state as a senior, and usually as a junior, and in rare instances as a sophomore.

It will be nice to have the age-old EWG argument finally solved in the first couple weeks of the season.

Based on their schedule, I can see them 1-7-0 after first 8 games.

Thu 9/05/13 at Coventry High School
Tue 9/10/13 at South Kingstown High School
Thu 9/12/13 East Greenwich High School
Tue 9/17/13 at The Prout School
        Thu 9/19/13 LaSalle Academy
        Tue 9/24/13 Portsmouth High School
Fri 9/27/13 at Smithfield High School
Tue 10/01/13 St. Mary Academy - Bay View

Troll alert--so you think EWG will lose to all those teams except LaSalle?

It looks to me like many of the schools on that list might be 1-7 . Many seniors that played a lot for these teams are graduated and not replaced

There will be some early tests to tell.. Smithfield has LaSalle, Portsmouth, and Prout to start..on the flip side Bayview has LaSalle, EG, SK, and NK in a 10 day stretch late in the season..

Could be another long year for Cranston-West -- open with SK, EG, LSA, NK, and then Portsmouth

Bull puckey! LaSalle, EG, NK, Prout, & Bay View will all still be very strong teams.

The only teams that could be much less than they were in prior years is Smithfield and SK.

Agreed..not sure the progression, but saw Smithfield JV team a couple of times last year and not a strong showing. Bayview has the best coach in my opinion and good young talent. LSA is strong and has good talent in the pipeline and of course the ability to reload unlike public schools and more than other private schools...plus strong GK which always keeps you competitive at the high school level.. Really don't know much about EG..NK lost a top player but I thought had a strong junior class..SK always is in the mix with their physical and smash style soccer that works at school level..Portsmouth I thought had some depth too.. probably won't be that much different in terms of the top half with the exception of Smithfield..but how they shake out among the top half may depend on home vs away and injuries..

Actually the critical word is that she will still be in middle school this year. 8th grader. I think you're jumping the gun. Maybe she won't even play at Portsmouth????? Is a private school in her future? Will she play ECNL ? Will ECNL not allow players to play HS soccer like DAP does on the boys side ?

I think the more critical word there was "sarcasm" from the OP

I think that it is smart for EWG to move up. They are not as strong as last year however still would be a power in D2. Next year they will be even weaker, if stayed in D2 would most likely be forced up next year due to record. Move to D1 this year test the waters if unable to compete (remember they would be the smallest school in D1 by far) they would be ranked to move back to D2. If they do ok and stay in D1 next year their underclassmen would have one year under their belts when they lose a lot of strength, so they will know what it takes for D1.

Do they have any club players? Don't hear much about girls playing club from that part of the state.
