Lusitana is 1 - 1 (okay it's MAPLE 3) but.

Seriously, they are tying games in Maple 3 and they are going to play a Bayside team that tied the #1 ranking team in the country last weekend????

If they were U13, I would say it would be a great opportunity to play against great competition but at U17??? sorry but no kid on Lusitana is playing D anything. You would think the club would spare them the embarrassment but I'm sure they are making some money off it.

A good part of the new Lusitana U17 G team are girls who came from the Bruno U16G team last year and wanted no part of Bruno ever again-who cares if you play in a higher league if you get no coaching?

The rest if that team is NS and Lincoln kids. They play MAPLE 3 since they are a new team they have to start at that level.

I don't think anyone thinks they are going to beat Bayside-different level of player and different level of commitment-but it's a decent team considering they've never played together before. I doubt Lusitana is making big money off of them as the fees are less than Bruno and by a fair amount.

They would be better off under the Bayside umbrella and playing for Bayside South. More training and more tournaments. Better connections.

well, first of all you have some differences when JO'C ran the program versus the Shaws (and now MN). Hard to tell, but is Bayside u17 about Bayside or the fact the URI head coach is the coach? RAMS would be more successful it was a united effort, but then again, who would get the $$?

second, have to give GE some time (and I would think he is rightly focused on building a better D1 program, which is what his real job depends on), but in the void, you had the SK HS coaches step in at the older ages and the only viable younger team - the u12b (the u13g don't even do state cup and play at a level in MAPLE/tournament below nearby town program) is due to the personal connections of the coach (NKHS boys coach).

3rd, for whatever reason, the RAMS have filled some of the older teams with mixed age groups, for a couple of teams to accommodate a few parents. The u17 team does okay, but the u16G and older boys team suffer (playing in MAPLE 3 might as well play superliga anchor). The U17G team won its MAPLE 2, but the Ocean State u17G team was 2d place so why pay that what, $1200 more?

If the RAMS drew some of the other top talent from the local area, they might be a reasonable alternative for the south (and Bayside South may have a few kids at the younger age levels, but the model is not attractive in Southern RI for that A-/B+ level talent that are the kids who will be decent for their HS team, but not wanting to push it -- because those kids would already tryout for MA or "regular" Bayside when they get to the older ages).

RAMS should take a cue from what seems to be happening up North -- find a creative way to partner with SC, Ocean State, and pluck the other occasional talent from the other nearby communities -- but that is not going to happen (except for some of the SC kids that go to SKHS) when a D level HS coach is running the show and if the 4 town rules goes away so a town program with standing in MAPLE and good facilities can just as easily let a team that is "coach driven" (formed and loyal to a coach, not the club) and say come to us, bring your team, charge less and keep more (ie the Strikers model to a degree).

Especially when for example Ocean State has a B and C licensed coaches, SC has an A or B license coaches, etc. Maybe GE will put more of his stamp on things, but if MN stays at Bayside, there is not much in the pipleine on the girls side and the boys program really has only one team and that is coach driven.

True, but what's to gain given the main purpose of the RAMS is $$ to the men's program (how many URI recruits come through RAMS? None on the girls -- MN coaches for Bayside and his RI recruit comes from his Bayside team; I don't think any on the boys side -- GE is taking kids from Africa/Europe and his US recruits are mainly mid-Atlantic; only New England kid is from CT).

So if you are a top kid in southern RI, you're probably already in MA (or Bayside) for girls (like the ones who left SC u16 instead of going to RAMS or even the couple of 3rd team all-staters who opted for town program -- only a couple from Portsmouth/SK went to RAMS) or other clubs if Boys. The RAMS might have more success on the girls side, but obviously they can't make it a joint mens/womens college based club work so right away it's going to be mainly developmental for the local HS players or maybe a D3 searching player.

Bayside South? - If you're the RAMS, you are giving up $$ for far less gained as the extra league (NEP versus MAPLE) is not going to wow the type of player already staying in the south with RAMS or OS/SC and RAMS already offer a decent facility/WWIS South/technical training, etc.

And the other area HS kids -- why go play for SK coaches? if GE is the coach maybe, but again, no offense to SR/DP, but in terms of drawing a lot other than SK (and for u17 Portsmouth) and the occasional Prout/Private school kid, why would those kids pay an extra $1000 when SC/OS, etc. can offer basically the same (MAPLE, NEFC/Needham type tournaments) and they can play more with their HS teammates?

Thus, if your GE, you want a steady flow of MAPLE 1/2 type teams that provide enough pull to be competitive enough and enough volume to make the $$. You're just not going to be drawing the high caliber (not a lot in the south anyway and URI is not taking kids from RI for soccer scholarships except the occasional outlier it seems) and frankly, if it was just a draw, a northern premier club would have made more inroads. Bruno has tried especially on the girls side and that has/is falling apart (same with BW);

Bayside South is still TBD, but until it has u14 and up teams, I'm holding my breath on that too as nothing other than a chance to poach the starry eyed u10/u12 parents who thinks their kids have outgrown SC/EG/OS/Chariho etc but don't want to travel to Smithfield..that ends when they realize their kid will be just another nice HS player who won't go beyond and that extra $1200 and travel becomes not worth the role player position..

How did the U14 girls SC team do in RI State Cup? I though they were coached by a GPS (director) coach and he was going to make everything all better.

GPS is nothing more then 22 year old kids from Great Britain coaching on temporary visa's hoping to lock up an american wife so they can stay for ever.

Sc u14 played in nep under mps with GPS coach but with sc name..so one team and again as noted that did not translate to successs in state cup..sc did okay in lower level nep but dropped to tidal wave who were still in maple 3!

Sc u15 played northeast league and only came in 7 of 8..bayside came in 2nd..but neither could get by that Portsmouth superliga team..

We get it. Bayside U15 girls are not the club's strongest team. Every club has strong teams and weaker teams. Why keep piling on?
