Personally think 'premier' is a rip off, particularly here in RI. It's rare you get a legit highly qualified coach which is a shame.
Hard to generalize..better input might be to look at the town teams in MAPLE and doing the higher level tournaments.. I see South County has a team in Northeast league and while you can say it is the water down version, still kudos to them..Smithfields spinoff may be a good data point on price versus offerings.

Still, not sure how parents pay 4 to 8 times more for premier and don't get state cup or get in lower divisions than town teams at tournaments..not every premier team is going to be great, but if you can't even enter state cup or play at the level of a town team, you should not be paying premier prices..

Enjoy your superliga competition. People pay to play premier because you get to play top competition and go to top tournaments where kids will get noticed. What are you getting out of playing town soccer with your all star team? A trophy!

I just saw a posting where a bayside team played #1 team in the country. Don't think Pawtucket will do that playing superliga. Good luck because if your kids stay in that environment they won't be playing for much longer. Enjoy your cheap tuition. You ever hear the saying "You get what you pay for".

If you want your kid to advance to the next level, town soccer cannot get them there. To advance your kid, get them on the best team possible, year after year. They'll get better by playing with better players, playing against better teams, playing in the toughest leagues.

By u14 this Pawtucket team will fall apart as the better players leave for premier.

Interesting strategy for state cup. This year has a super strong Boys U12 Bayside team competing in 8 v 8. Rams, Blackwatch and Bruno are avoiding them by playing 11 v 11 in State Cup. Smart. The 11 v 11 winner gets the State Cup tag and the Gotsoccer points and hope for reload at tryouts. Maybe two RI U12 11 v 11 teams will go to SC this year like last year.

Who cares? It's U12 soccer. Anyone going to a team just because of State cup win or GotSoccer points is an idiot anyhow.

Always love people who take the time out of their busy day to type in that they don't care and enter the question code. LOL

Someone at Rams better tell DP he needs to remove himself from Rams 17 girls sideline, practice and rosters. direct violation of RIIL rules. I would hate to see the state title he is about to win be taken away.

The question is whether DP has been formally approved by the SK school board -- he is not listed with RIIL nor listed on the SKHS website as the coach; if he has been, then you are correct; if he has been selected but not approved, then either he or SK AD is skirting the rules by withholding the formal consent.

I don't think you have to worry - I think Lusitana (entering their first state cup at U17) has a better chance at beating Bayside's U17Gs in state cup.

Who decides to pull together a team at U17 to compete for a state cup vs. the most successful team the state has ever had at regionals?

                        (1) Nobody pulls a team together to compete for state cup alone. I would think the teams in U17 are organized to play in leagues and tournaments for the development of the players, most likely 98% or so to help them for their HS team (maybe outside Bayside).

                        (2) Because if you are paying premier prices, state cup should be part of the fee and you don't shy away from competing against top teams locally (makes no sense to go to tournaments and consistently play at levels where you are overmatched) just because they are as you note, probably the most successful girls' club team.

                        (3) Last year, as I recall, the RAMS team got blown out by BSFC in u16 in the quals, but the finals was only 1 to 0. Only saw some of the game and maybe BSFC was missing players, etc, but that's why you still play the game. Weather, fields, injuries, etc..

                        (4) Seems Bruno does not have a u17 team this year after having a u16 team, but if Lusitana has a better shot than the RAMS, why are they in Maple 3 while 3 other RI u17 teams including RAMS are in Maple 2 (not like there is any real promotion/relegation at that level).

and Yes, it is probably 99.9% that BFSC will win this age group, but not knowing the composition of the other teams, my guess based on the other posts is RAMS is heavy SK so is Lusitana predominantly North Smithfield, etc?

Is DP the SK girls coach?

Of the teams competing in U17s this year - only one has competed in the past, Blackwatch.
Even last year, SK's team was actually U15s playing playing up at U16.

All I'm saying is that you expect as kids come to the end of their soccer careers, you don't expect clubs to pull together all new teams out of thin air like Lusitania and RI Soccer. Where have these kids been the last couple years at U17 and why in the hell would you put a U16 team up to compete against this buzzsaw of a team?

Finally, I believe Bruno has a team and after multiple years of futility, I believe they are probably just accepting they aren't going to compete and would be better looking towards President Cup.

My guess would be if these are predominantly from 1 or 2 high school teams, they are both SO/JR so you would have to play up at u17. I think the RAMS are mainly u16s but they must have a few u17s to force them playing at u17.

Maybe these are a lot of kids who have done premier but are not going to play D1 (scholarship) in college so why pay the $$ and training travel hassle (just thinking most 16/17 year old girls tend to have other interests/distractions especially if not striving for a D1 scholarship than play at a TW, Bruno) and play with your school teammates closer to home?

Again, one loss to a terrific BFSC team is not going to be too impactful -- I bet more will measure how their HS team does next fall than worrying about state cup..Plus if DP is going to be the SK coach, why wouldn't you want a bunch of SK girls in your club?

You fail to realize that playing with your high school friends on a not very competitive team is not as fun as it used to be. Even TW or Bruno are more competitive than the majority of the town teams. Why does everything have to be about a D-1 scholarship what if they just want to go and play D-II or III and be competitive at a higher level.

RAMS won 3 to 0 in MAPLE 2 play.
Ocean State 3, Blackwatch 0 in MAPLE 2 play.

                                Lusitana is 1 - 1 (okay it's MAPLE 3) but.

Point - where are even a TW (went 0 for everything right as u16) or Bruno (can't even field a team) or even BW (losing badly apparently to a town program)?

so what if these are high school teams mainly on town or pseudo-premier teams.. except for Bayside u17, all the other "premier" options would be in no better than MAPLE 2 or 3 except Bruno which I guess would backdoor into NEP but again, can't even attract a team when apparently those other 3 can.

If those other programs were selling something of value, they'd be attracting enough for a team or at least apparently better than talent..nobody is going to touch Bayside u17 for sure, but seems like those other programs are competitive so far..
