    2024 HS Girl’s Soccer

So much to talk about now that the season is less than 90 days away.
Who are the strongest teams in the state this year?
    Did RIIL get realignment right?
Did RIIL make the right choice in regards to teams picking some of their games? Yes, that’s correct! They followed MA lead by letting teams play lower division opponents so
everyone has a chance to… win! Yay! If you do beat a lower division opponent you don’t get as many power points.
Playoff seeding will be decided by power rankings not W/L/T.
Are some of the top players, who suffered severe injuries, returning to another season of game after game after game to get the season completed?
Who will win it all? D1? D2? D3?

It all comes down to which town has the most ECNL or GA players on their teams. It’s not due to coaching as we know many aren’t qualified and did not develop players.

      Cumberland will repeat. Possibly Mt.Hope.
NK/LaSalle definitely in the mix of things.
Disagree about ECNL GA players. There aren’t that many to begin with even if they are on those teams doesn’t mean they belong there.
Also, most of the coaches are club coaches as well. (LaSalle, Cumb, Barrington, CW, etc…)
HS isn’t where the development. Thats what we pay club/s coaches for. Players play with their clubs for about 8 months. They play on their HS teams for approx 10 weeks.
There won’t be too much development in 10 weeks.
It’s like sending a player to a camp for a week or two and saying, OK… now you are developed and ready to go.”

I'm surprised to hear this. How can there be a legit ECNL (not ECRL) or GA player that doesn't belong on a HS roster unless the team is stacked full of them?

They absolutely belong on a HS roster if they are legit. However, and we all know it, some of the players don’t belong on the ECNL or other rosters. That was the point.
Same with HS… some players have to be taken because of small turnouts (numbers). Some are taken for other reasons. It’s HS

Development, to a point, should not be expected at the HS level. Very short, rushed season. Last season was continuous games because of weather.
If anything, players are being subjected to massive injuries by the league.

They required even more games this year. A bunch of A-holes running RIIL

No more than two games a week should be happening. More than that causes increased injuries. RIIL should ask the coaches how many players injured already first few weeks of the season. Coaches need to do their part building in rest recovery days and not so much running sprints, beep tests and stupid fitness drills. If your players don’t come fit to tryouts, don’t offer them a spot. Arrive fit, developed and strong.

There are too many games. RIIL in general is concerned about RIIL and the cliques within sports and coaches/administrators. It's funny that that RIDE and the General Assembly oversee education often to a micro level (feminine hygiene products in bathrooms) and yet don't bother with sports and give a de facto monopoly to RIIL and the principals. Season should be just each team once (so 12-13 games depending on the Division) and have mandatory relegation/promotion unless the school administration can demonstrate (based on JV records, expected graduating players, etc.) a rationale to stay). Make the playoffs start earlier with top 6 in with 7 playing 10 and 8 playing 9 for the final two spots. Get the championship game in by last weekend in October so weather is less of a factor. With 12 games you can allow for one rivalry game that doesn't count (like CW vs CE; or publics whose rival is in the same Div and privates play say a good out of state opponent). Reward away wins and reduce goal differential 4 pts away win; 3 pts home win; 2 pts away tie; 1 pt home tie and tie breakers are head to head with only playing once and if a tie, use away game points. HS isn't about development and coaching is uneven for sure - but you get school spirit and attendance/buzz that you don't get at the away game in MA on a dreary April weekend for a club match.

Good to see the LaSalle monopoly has faded - RIIL was (is?) stacked disproportionately with private schools and there were always the "don't look here" on athletic recruiting; it was never fair that public schools are subject to APRA and oversight while privates didn't have to be scrutinized (like the camps that ran two weeks before the season open that magically were only attended by the players who would be on the team). Although seeing SK and Smithfield and Pilgrim at the bottom, there is always the case that some schools (like EWG now in the bottom division or Burrillville) lived by the fortune of a few really good players in a cohort who stayed local.

No upsets on girls side this round, LaSalle, Cumberland, Chariho, and NK all win.

4 years without a title, 2 in a row without a final appearance. When’s the last time they had a stretch like that ?
