What are your thoughts on MLS Next or high school for a Rhode Island player. My son plays for MLS Next as a 8th grader. Trying to decide for next year, please help.

What does he want to do? How dedicated is he? Is D1 soccer or higher achievable and in his future plans? Does he play other sports as well that he may miss out on?
Will he start in HS as a freshman? Is it a great school for soccer? Do other kids play for non-MLS Next clubs and go on to play soccer at colleges?
Try to research where the top RI kids go to college and what programs they play for? How many kids from his club go on to play college soccer and at what level? Are they getting substantial playing time in college just a part of the team?

He loves the game, is very dedicated and does not play any other sport. He is currently at Bayside and couldn’t be any happier, loves his team and coach. His town High School has some good players but it is not a soccer school! The decision will be all his to make, when that time comes. I was wondering what persuaded older players to either choose MLS or High School. Also knowing it is unique to different players

MLS Next is a MUCH HIGHER level brand of soccer. Unless he goes to ISL school. Then the drop off is that dramatic. Don't need MLS Next to play college soccer, it helps and it easier to get noticed. But don't need it.

We had the same choice to make and my son chose HS and to play on the non mls club team. He wanted the HS sport experience with classmates cheering them on, game announcements and a fan base of 3-500 people. He doesn't regret it at all, he started every game and played every minute so far
