Just curious if anyone recalls from when they were kids playing local soccer, were Cameron and Parkhurst soccer "prodigies" that were clearly destined for a high level from day 1, or were they examples of guys who just kept working hard and improved at every level?

Cameron was like ugarte who now plays at PC.they were always around the game.Cameron played with some very talented kid...s two I recall an Argentina and another boy who was Portuguese.attleboro had some very good players and town soccer and rec.Cameron went on to play club with SD who probably refined his skills . I don't rember at what age he went to bayside -

Geoff did not play club for stacey. He played HS for stacey. Hey did play at bayside fc and it was around U14 prior to that he played for NE eagles. what is now NEFC after a few name changes and a merger or 2. Fairly sure both were late bloomers. They both were always very good players in their age groups. Think Mike made the regional pool once or twice but never got much recognition beyond that. IMO both their stories are great for young kids playing the game. Keep working, keep listening and keep working and enjoy the ride. Sometimes mother nature rewards the effort later in teen years for some. Being a super star in U10 - U14 generally means very little for future success, both these players are testament to that.Originally posted by Unregistered View Post
Rhode Island has had it's share of young super star talents. Kids who at young ages were locally judged as can't miss. None of them to my knowledge ever played at a level anywhere near Mike and Geoff as young men.Comment

Micheal was always a super kid who would have been successfull no matter what he did. However, he was fortunate to have a friend's father pay his way to the IMG sports academy in high school. A big move to leave home after eighth grade. Doubt he has been home much since. Would you want to say goodbye to your little mia at that early age?Comment

It's really sad how Bayside United has had the story " Geoff Cameron says goodbye to his old coach" as the main headline on their website for MONTHS. They have abandoned sharing stories about their teams and players to gloat about some guy who played years ago for SD. This place is all about SD and his claim that he "only wants to develop his players" is full of BS. It's about his bloated ego and his money.Comment
