    1. Two (2) years between realignment. Starting Fall 2012-2014
No appeals or movement between realignment
    2. Formula
    70% win/loss over past eight (8) years
    30% enrollment
    Division win weights:
    • Division I = 1.0
    • Division II = .60
    • Division III = .36
    • Division IV = .22

Typical that the RIIL folks only think about past performance as a proxy for future performance. For some schools, this may be okay, but look at how one or two good classes with just a few dominant players (as noted by another poster) can affect a team's performance.

Same with enrollment; soccer only requires 3-4 standout players along with 8-10 complementary players; not like football.

        Why make it so complicated?

First, get rid of the geographic sub-groups within a Division. Each team plays each other once, alternating home/away over a 2 year cycle.

Top team is RI Division "X" State Champ.

Top 8 teams in D1, top 4 teams in D2, and top 2 teams in D3/D4 play in a 16 team tournament at end of season (using games saved by eliminating 2d match against the sub-group opponent in some cases) to determine an overall RI State Champ.

After 2 years, 3 teams with the lowest combined 2 year record against opponents in the Division *and* sub-.500 record over 2 years for JV teams get moved down (D1/D2/D3) and replaced by (in order) top teams from next division down.

Take EWG -- awesome Varsity record last few years in D2; .500 record I think in JV last year. Will see if that indicates a change at the top of D2 in the future. Overall point though is RIIL could be setting up a system of rewarding past performance when the goal or realignment should be to project forward the most competitive divisions.

There will be a change at the top of D2 this year--Pilgrim vs MSC for the crown.

Top freshmen and certainly sophmores from smaller schools are forced into varsity positions so looking at JV records isn't always an indication of what's coming up in the queue. A school with a varsity team loaded with very good freshman and sophmores may have no one any good left on JV.

Not likely this year. They were going to settle back into mediocrity anyways with the loss of the twins - now with the loss of MS in the middle they become like every other D1 school with a couple decent RI premier players.

Overall there will be a lot of parity across the D1 teams - should be a very competitive and entertaining season.

My dark horse is Prout - mids and defense are strong. If they get another forward to go with the all-stater they could surprise a lot of people.

Heard the all-stater was done when she tore ACL again before state championships per her father. Unless something has changed their mind since then....

IMO there will be much more parity this year, but LSA is still stacked with talent.

All both of the teams need is a coach

Yes we @ LS sure miss JA, rest his soul. Such a great coach and person....he used to ask when the girls would be playing in the Spring and he would actually show up and cheer them on for State Cup, etc. My daughter is blessed to have known him...

LSA is also dealing with ACL issues as well this season.
