[QUOTE=Unregistered;659834]Starts at the top with DT, no qualifications, no experience, no coaching ability, was just around enough at the right time when SRI had no answers.
He is a total joke. He should wear a clown suit on the sidelines.

Look at announcement for ODP regional tournament..not a single RI player in any of the 4 girls or 2 boys teams..at least NH/VT/CT have at least one and MA has a few for Region 1..
Take a look at other NE state ODP..they have mostly college/assistant college coaches with at least A/B license (yes, I know RI has a couple of asst college coaches)..and very few have conflict of interests in terms of coaching town/club teams during the winter/spring..
RI has way too many ODP coaches who are committed to school and club teams..ODP is just a venue to recruit or to scarf up some of that 100K that SRI pays in "coaching expenses".. there are no metrics set, no goals/objectives to develop a strategy..no, just report we assembled the masses on most Wed and then went to NJ and got showed up (but hey, we're a small state).
hmm, get paid to chit chat while we scrimmage some town team that the volunteer managed to find..oh, and don't forget to include the travel expenses..and there's no accountability for performance..sounds like a good gig if you can get it.. no low number license plate though..

To be honest, ODP is all about the talent that decides to play
True..so what do other states do.beyond the open tryouts?
hmm, scout HS, MS, and U12/14 premier league games; ask coaches to nominate top players; reach out to identified players;
RI - hold an open tryout; certify the parents can write a check or meet the fundraising goal;
hope the better kids and their parents didn't get completely soured from any earlier ODP experience..

Again, if RI players decided to play ODP we will have our share of ODP players on the Region1 team.
True..so why do the top players play in other states and not RI? You would think that SRI board might, I don't know, actually be embarrassed about RI ODP performance..but then again, the most important performance measure -- revenue generated -- is being met.
Kind of like the guy at the end of Animal House -- remain calm, all is well.

ODP is for showcasing - if you expect your kid to get better, you grossly misinformed about the program.
If your kid is any good - your kid will play better because of the talent around them not the coaching.
I give Tidwell props for clearing out CD at least - step in the right direction. You can complain about CM but at least she's not yelling at the kids and telling them how much of a star she was.

From SRI:
SOCCER RHODE ISLAND ODP (Olympic Development Program) is designed to help those players who are interested in improving their game and taking it to the next level.
The program offers what we believe is the very best coaching in the state and an opportunity to train with and play against the best players in Region 1.
