    Playing in NEP stinks

Our NEP game today got canceled at the last minute. No explanation, no re-scheduled date, nothing.

The only thing I can guess is that the other team was coming from Portland, Maine and they didn't feel like traveling to RI, so they blew it off. Why bother? The NEP games don't mean anything, so let's just play the ones we feel like playing.

4 weeks into the season and we have played exactly 1 game. No clue as to when the other 3 will be re-scheduled - if ever. And, our schedule for the rest of the season is unknown beyond next Sunday.

I'd go back to Maple in a heartbeat. NEP is so disorganized and such a disappointment. At least in Maple you have to play the games or risk forfeit and potential relegation. The games have meaning and consequence.

Great post. Sounds like town soccer.

No, town soccer is much more organized than NEP.

Not sure of the concept of the NEP league. For many years some have been trying to have a New England league. Seems to me this was always a good idea for Maine, Vermont and New Hamshire. Rhode Island also before we got into Maple.

The Maple league with their tiered divisions and playoff format is a tried and true league. All leagues will have some flaws but Maple works. Hopefully NEP falls apart and some of the stronger teams return to Maple. For those that would like a super elite league then just have Maple create a division for that for super elite teams only from New England.

Ran into your exact scenario this Spring with NEP. Teams(plural) from Maine backed out at the last minute. They need to screen the organizations better before they add them to the schedule.

NEP is a failure as a leqgue other than the fact that it still makes money since teams still have to pay even though they play only a portion of what they pay for. However, it is unlikely to change since the big clubs like Stars, Socrps, MPS, only play NEP so they can compete in MA state cup. NEP is only a secondary league as these teams also for the most part play in more important leagues like ECNL or regional. So until the big club feel the pinch, smaller less important clubs will continue to pay the bills.

In the fall, NEP is the only game in town. It's still not fair in the spring for the less competitive teams that only play NEP to have such a poorly run league.

I was there at Gordon School yesterday and it was a wonderful experience watching some of the best U12 and under talents in NE. It was an experience that you don't get to see in Maple. Complaint all you want but I like this format.

Happy for you...at least the other team showed up.

That's the other reason why NEP will continue to limp along. Some are convinced that it draws the best talent in NE. Let me know what your experience is next time when you are at the Gordon School waiting to play that great NE talent and they don't show up. NEP's response might not make you very happy.

You are in the second week of league play and you get bent over this. Last I check we all are in the same league. Correction on the statement made by the first poster. NEP just finished the 2nd week of league play so not sure how your daughter's team are already in your 4 weeks of league play. Yes, she may have practice for 4 weeks but last I checked NEP started on 9/11. Yes, your daughter's team was supposed to play during Hurricane Irene weekend but the league cancelled the festival due to safety concerns. FYI- I personally don't think MCU Portland has a GU13 team. You are correct the league needs to do a better job of screening club and assess penalty for club that entered team when they don't have a team in that age bracket.

Or the other option is take your kid out of the team and sign her up for a club that plays MAPLE. I know when we played MAPLE we run into these same problem. Last minute cancellation.

Oh just let me grumble about NEP. I fell better about things after a good tirade.

So MCU doesn't have a U13 girls team but NEP schedules them anyway?

So NEP cancels Aug. 29 festival but con't provide make-up dates 3 weeks later?

So NEP can only publish its schedule through Sept. 25?

I don't want NEP to assess MCU a penalty. I just want NEP to schedule games that have a chance to happen.

I know what my options are. We'll see how the year goes....

Why don't you go on the NEP website and click on the U13 Championship Bracket. On top of the September schedule there are tabs for each months. click on October and November, I'm sure you will find your daughters complete schedule.
