Apparently by coin flip. On the boys' side, Davisville won theirs and will host Portsmouth on Monday at Ocean State Soccer. Both were #1 seeds.

Anybody know about CC-Portsmouth or Wickford-Kickemuit -- both matches have equally seeded teams.

Absolutely agree. I hadn't watched these two teams play before and it was obvious Cole had a stronger lineup. There were clear adjustments that would have changed the outcome of the game. Your comment about penalty kicks is spot on, Kickemuit was prepared and Cole wasn't and in all probability explains why the Cole coach failed to make adjustments.

Curious what happened to CC girls -- was the game in Portsmouth?

RIPCOA should move to neutral sites for semi-finals -- too likely equally seeded teams will match up by the semis and you avoid situation where the head of the soccer committee comes from one of the schools involved.

Interesting how they opt for a change in the finals..

Section 11. The Committee assumes the responsibility for the cost of the officials in the
championship game only. A three (3) man system will be utilized.

Made the incredibly long 4 and a half hour journey from Lincoln to Middletown this afternoon to watch the girls final; Portsmouth v. Wickford. My daughter wanted to see it and I had the time so....

Congrats to Portsmouth girls for gutting out a very physical, tough match, 2-0. Both teams were very even, IMO. Both were very aggressive, very physical. There were several girls knocked to the turf throughout, but nobody hurt.

0-0 at the half. At the 17 minute mark of the 2nd half, Portsmouth scored when the girl taking a corner from the left side curled in a beautiful corner kick that ended up high into the middle of the goal; 1-0 Portsmouth.

10 minutes later, a Portsmouth throw-in into the box results in a Portsmouth shot blocked by a Wickford defender, defender falls down in doing so, ball comes back to shooter who knocks it in; 2-0 Portsmouth.

A couple close calls in the last few minutes on Wickford corner kicks but that was it. Portsmouth girls are state champs. Congrats.

Couldn't stay for the boys match.

That Gaudet MS complex is pristine. What a great facility for school sports. I get the same thought every time I walk into a lighted turf place like that (EG, NS, Bryant, etc.)...why can't we have one in Lincoln? Whoever ran the game did a great job; music, PA announcer, local girls singing the National Anthem, concessions.

By the way, pretty good crowd - at least 300 there, some of whom were obviously showing up early for the boys game at 7. There were lots of kids from both scholls with signs. It all added up to a fun, exciting atmoshpere that you only get from school sports. It certainly wasn't the prettiest soccer match I've ever seen, but nobody seemed to mind.

Yep, good recap JB. Fog started rolling in which is only downside -- didn't stay either so wondering if that impacted the boy's match, especially given the final score.

Both teams looked tight in first half, and neither could mount much sustained possession attack -- pretty much knew it would come down to a set piece and the team that scored first probably was going to win. Portsmouth was a bit better at getting the ball out of the defensive zone under pressure instead of just kicking it out. When Wickford changed up formation and a moved a couple of players, they started mounting much better attack, which makes you wonder why the coach didn't do that sooner. Reminded me of the Cole - Kickemuit match where a coach seems fixated, especially on the defensive side (and having a sweeper), and can't make in game adjustments.

Nice facility -- paid for mainly by Salve Regina -- why can't SRI find a partnership with someone that result in a win-win like Middletown-Salve did???

                    Boys' Final

Good recap of the Boy's game here, including some video and pics:

The fog didn't affect the match, it cleared by half, when it was 1-0 Davisville. The first goal was a free kick from just outside the top of the box, about 19 yards and the keeper had no chance. It was quite a comeback by Feinstein in the final 15, but in the end they had no answer for the DMS striker, who is only a 6th grader (!).

That's just awesome. Thanks for posting the link. Great video - what's better than that? Congrats to Davisville. And hats off to Feinstein for not giving up after being down 3-0.
