Bayside has been at this the longest and has with stood the test of time they have had their ups and downs but JM has really brought that club to another level the last 3 years. And VA is doing a great job with RISC I think SRI will have no choice but to allow them entrance into State Cup and once they do they may push Bruno and BWP out of the Picture. And even though the quality of players and coaches isn't quite bayside Tidal Wave seems like a good structured environment for a less competitive player to enjoy themselves. SC like him or not is a business man and this is a business.
Very interesting topic...clubs resting on their history and their laurels and simply expect the kids to keep coming.

I have seen the same thing happen in AAU baseball here in RI. as recently as 3 years ago the RI Tides were the #1 AAU club in RI. But then they got lazy. Meanwhile the Reds, Rays (baseball) and Spinners were building their clubs at the 9U and 10U age groups. In no time the Tides were a shell of their former self.

I agree about the Rays website. It is a terrible indicator of what the Rays are all about. yet, in 2011, the single most important marketing tool has is its website. Somebody over there had better get on the stick.

I'm guessing the Rays are counting on the continued support and protection of SRI. What's happening here is the result of a non-competitve, monopolized environment of premier clubs in RI. Bruno, BWP are also losing kids while upstarts like the NE Wave and RISC are out-hustling them and building strong programs.

Can't tell you how many players I have seen come to tryout for my son's team from Bruno and BWP! The Monopoly is over in girls soccer Rays just picked up go to jail card while Bayside just passed go. And just out of curiosity why does SRI always put a picture of the Rays U13 on the bottom of the site when there are plenty of teams winning tournaments the same weekend sometimes they post a pic even when they are finalist.

You were doing great until you slipped back into your conspiracy theory. The guys running the Ray's aren't smart enough to have a good website, their own facility, and young teams but somehow they are smart enough for a conspiracy. I don't think so.

The Rays have been around long enough that they could probably own a great facility that could now be making them money along with creating value in of itself.

Yes I did to my own clubs website you should do the same. O thats right you dont have a website so you have to use the states. I dont think anyone should be on the state site because is causes problems bad move by SRI.

You're right, good turn around. They shouldn't have any pictures from random events. They probably should have all the State Cup winners there though.

                  What conspiracy theory?

The facts are the facts....SRI has a restrictive policy regarding the acceptance of new premier clubs. Any newly formed club must get approval by the SRI Board, then SRI's general membership (all the town and premier club prez's) to become an SRI member. It's an arduous process which takes a year or more.

It just so happens that 3 RI Rays officers are also SRI Board members.

Ya think they're going to be in favor of more premier clubs - a.k.a. "competition" - in SRI?

Ya think they're going to be in favor of letting non-SRI member clubs play in state cup?

That whole SRI membership process is why most new RI-based clubs register with Mass Youth Soccer to get started. MYSA has an "open" registration policy which allows anyone to start up a new soccer club and start playing without the need for "board approval" or "membership approval".

Not having a useful website, not fielding younger teams, not marketing the club to families of youth soccer players, etc. are just symptoms of what happens to any youth sports club that has no incentive to improve. Why bother to improve? Why bother to offer innovative programs and/or training? SRI is not going to allow in any more premier clubs anyway. We're the only show in town!

Hey, call it a "conspiracy theory" all you want. The facts stand for themselves.

I guess I did a decent job with the rankings not many complaints! I did my best to use all available resources there were a few I wasn’t too sure on but they seem ok for the most part.

Heard last night at practice that 2 starting defenders from bruno girls U14s have left to join bayside.

I asked why and one of the Dad's told me that they were sick of losing all the time.

The Bayside G U14 team had a full roster last season.

I looked at their scores from last year and they didn't look too bad. They could probably use 1 more kid that is good at scoring.

Hopefully they can still field a team and just replace those that left. So many times you see kids and adults leaving some situation for greener pastures and thinking that the ship will sink without them. Typically the place they left gets stronger with the new blood and better attitude.
