Bayside looks to be the top Club in RI and Im not shocked to see that the bigger question is what is going on with Bruno? How can they fall so far so fast? Did Noonan leaving have that much of a impact?

Bayside has the younger teams locked up. It's not a good sign for clubs that don't focus on the younger groups. It looks like the Rays are calling it quits by not fielding younger teams!

Rays are done everyone has been saying it for the last 2 years. Club is a joke now, they have 1 good team U13 who poorly coached and currently under performing. Don�t get me wrong I'm sure they are nice guys but very little playing and coaching experience. And I know some Rays U13 parent is going to come on and say but the parents love each other and all that BS but when u keep losing watch how fast the top 4 or 5 players and parents leave.They will lose 2 best girls to MA clubs like the rays have done for years now and the rest of the team will go to bwp or bayside. U14�s & U15's are just ok and they will be done in 2-3 years and with no youth program rays will collapse. O yeah and the world is coming to a end in 2012.

It looks like the Ray's are shutting it down. The existing teams will probably be fine and finish the youth cycle, but without any younger teams, the writing is on the wall.

Your, under-performing comment because of coaching is probably wrong. Coaching credentials are way overrated. I would rather have a coach with little experience that shows up all the time,is energetic, is a good motivator and has a good sense of the game, then some of the duds with lots of credentials. How many times have you seen coaches with tons of experience that you don't want you kid spending any time with? Or plays a style that resembles rec?

I have seen a number of premier coaches at work and have been impressed by few. Most of them seem as though they don't even watch professional soccer. I saw the Scorpions play the other day and was not impressed with the style of play. They definitely have some excellent athletes but they were playing like a rec team. They were winning because of their speed, strength and athletic talent, not for how they played the game.

Rays u15 parent here--just wishing all the RI teams (Bruno, Bayside, BW and of course, the Rays) the best of luck in whichever league they play in this spring. To the coaches, parents and players--GOOD LUCK! I'm sure we'll see each other at some point in the season. May the best team win, and whichver team gets the honor of competing at regionals, I'm sure the players, parents and coaches of the other teams will be supporting you in your effort to make RI proud.

Agreed! Bayside is taking over the younger age groups our U13 team is bayside new U10 team that�s how the rays U13 started 4 years ago a bunch of athletic 10 year old girls. I know bayside has the rep of making its players technically strong so I�m sure in 3 years that will be the new u13 RI team to beat. You wouldn't want someone always going after your little girl�s teams because of who they are affiliated with. Even if the rays started next year to try and rebuild its youth program I think bayside and BWP have already got the jump on them and it wouldn't go well for the rays they won�t be competitive.

As part of the Rays, do you know why they are not fielding younger age teams?

Not part of the Rays but IMO

I think it�s tough for the rays because the lack of facilities. You look at all these clubs Tidal Wave - Bliss / Rams -URI / Bruno - Milot / Bayside - Bryant / BWP - Wheeler / NE Wave Lincoln School / Lusitania has its own field not great but it�s theirs. Rays are all over the state behind every middle school in RI and tuck in small gyms. I think the rays have failed in this part of the management. They don�t promote their club at all the website is short of embarrassing they can�t get out any important information. They thought they were going to run of their history but failed to stay up with the rest of the state. If you were the parent of a 9 year old girl who was looking for a premier club even if someone recommended the rays which hasn't happened at that age in over 4 years how could you research them. Then how can you justify spending the same money for that type of product. They better merge soon or they will just disappear!

I have a daughter on the Rays and couldn't agree more. The Rays website is a complete embarrassment and has been forever. If I had a 9 year old, the chance of looking at the Rays would be zero, just because of the website. They practice on borrowed fields that are not well maintained and many times don't even have goals. It is not well organized and there is no club spirit. I have never even seen the oldest Rays team, never. They are clearly planning on disbanding or at best merging, or maybe just not planning. That's the bad part.

The good part is that our team, and I think this goes for all the existing teams, has coaching that is of a high quality and the parents are all into the team and are good people. There is great camaraderie between the girls and they really do have fun. Though I wish the Rays did have a home, I am happy with what we have.

You have to credit CM form TW, JM form Bayside and SC from BWP and even VA from RISC for setting the bar high for RI Premier Soccer. They cont to add teams, programs and coaches to their clubs that make them attractive. Bayside has been at this the longest and has with stood the test of time they have had their ups and downs but JM has really brought that club to another level the last 3 years. And VA is doing a great job with RISC I think SRI will have no choice but to allow them entrance into State Cup and once they do they may push Bruno and BWP out of the Picture. And even though the quality of players and coaches isn't quite bayside Tidal Wave seems like a good structured environment for a less competitive player to enjoy themselves. SC like him or not is a business man and this is a business.
