Who are the better Boys Premier Coaches, are they good coaches because they have the better players? It is always easy to be a good coach when you have the best players, would they be good coaches even without the good players? Who are the better coaches in RI and why that is my question being a small state it should be easy to identify our best Premier Coaches.

J.C. U13 Boys Coach from Bayside. He is without doubt one of the best coach's in the state. He is one of the founders of Project Goal along with D.S.
This team was not a winning team when it first began. Actually struggled with only 4 players as U10's and took him 3 months to build the team with a combination of U9's and U10's and didn't win a single game, but with his hard work, commitment, and genuine love of the boys and the sport, this team has come a long way. He always speaks to them before every game telling them regardless whether you win or lose - if you gave a 100% on the field then hold your head high walking off the field. He allows them to make mistakes and learn from mistakes. He is about the development of players and not the win or loss record. He was also named coach of the year for the state of Rhode Island in 2005. -
W.P. from the Rams U14 boys is a very good coach. He is young and extremely passionate. He has taken the equivalent of a town team (Warwick Fire Fighters) and competed well in the Maple 3rd division. Now that a few new players have come to his team (one ex Bayside and at least a couple of ex Blackwatch players), I expect that his coaching ability will be seen in the results. His team doesn't have the raw talent of the Bayside U14s, but as a coach he is getting the most from his players and is teaching them tactically how to play the game well.Comment

JD from RISC U15's is as good as it gets in northern RI. He currently coaches the Lincoln girls varsity and won a state championship with Lincoln middle school boys last year. He's very understated and calm. He knows how to put the team in a position to succeed.Comment

I have seen WP coach while I was watching a friends son play and I was not impressed, he is a micro manager, he screams and yells at every player to make every move he wants on the field rather than letting his players play the game. He really seems to get the players scared to make a mistake because he is constantly yelling. Needless to say the Hamlets won that day with ease.Comment

Going to play "homer" here and cast a vote for my boys coach at RISC U14's - VH. Great guy, even-tempered with a wealth of technical and tactical knowledge and soccer resume a mile long. Played NAIA college soccer in Texas and has been training and coaching youth soccer for years.
His first year with the RISC U14 boys team resulted in a 5-1-2 record in MASC. He also coached the Lincoln MS boys team to an unbeaten regular season and a run to the state semi-finals.
Hey, yes, he coaches my kids, ... but we're very happy with him. I love the fact that he takes the time to follow up every practice and match with both team-wide and/or personalized emails on his analysis of play.

My son plays for the U13 RISC and for me it is so hard to sit through practice watching how it is run. SM is the coach of that team, there is so much standing around at cones, I do not think one player has gotten better it really is a shame.
I usually watch the RISC U14 team practice instead of my sons, VH really runs a great practice every week his team really seems like they enjoy playing for him. TThe U14 team is constantly being challenged to become better and pushed hard to raise their level of play. I have not seen him coach a game but if his practices are anything like how he coaches in a game then I am sure the U14 RISC team is lucky. I really wish my son was bigger so he could play up with the U14's.
Good coaching is hard to get, once you find it embrace it and do not leave, the grass is not greener on the other side.Comment

I know of a couple guys locally who are as good as anyone at creating winning teams. Neither played the game at any level. Neither is particularly strong in technical training. But both are terrific at tactical training, evaluating talent and putting their players in positions on the field where the team can most succeed (win matches).
By the same token, I know a couple premier coaches who have played the game at a high level and are masters at teaching the technical side of the game. But, they have proven - season after season - to be unable to produce winning teams.

Most coaches today are judged by their wins and losses and because of that they can lose focus on how to train their team and would rather try to win in the short term and ignore what will really needed to prepare the team/players for future success. This is why most teams ignore a controlled game of soccer and would rather send/kick the ball long to their fast speedy forward.
