    Soccer Rhode Island Firing?

I overheard a conversation where people where discussing someone on the SRI board that was fired for serving alcohol to minors? Anyone know anything about this?

Is this good or bad? How will this affect the boards ability to block teams from challenging the RI Rays "superiority" in state cup competitions?

Just something else to add to the list when the Letter to the Editor to the ProJo is written.....

Nobody ever accused SRI of knowing the difference between right and wrong.

Nobody. The Rays, a.k.a. the SRI Board, have successfully blocked any legitimate competition from competing in state cup.

Congrats Rays. You guys win state cup again. First time a state cup has ever been decided in September.

Waaaaaaah, Waaaaaaah...maybe you can get SRI to make us not have impure thoughts about SRI and the Rays!

I agree you really need to get a life and if you wanted to be part if SRI you would shut up and put up and go through the process, however tedious you think it is. They are trying to keep premiere teams competitive and not just glorified town teams..there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

This anti-Rays and anti-SRI poster is a former Rays parent who took his daughter to a differnet team. Knowing that the Rays will probably win state cup next spring, he is trying to make excuses early to cover the fact that the Rays are still a strong team with him gone.

Yes, there's a lot wrong with it.

First of all, SRI doesn't have license to every single RI youth soccer player.

Second, if a club prefers to affiliate with Mass YSA simply because Mass YSA is so much easier to do business than SRI, with then that's their business. SRI's reaction - passing rules to block non-SRI teams from competing in state cup - IMO, completely oversteps SRI's jurisdiction for the simple reason that IT'S NOT SRI's state cup. It's USYSA's. Affiliating with Mass YSA makes any RI-based club a member of USYSA. If SRI wants to encourage RI-Based clubs to affiliate with SRI, then SRI needs to become easier to do business with.

Third, if town programs are having a tough time attracting town kids from playing in their competitive programs, then town programs need to ask themselves why and make improvements - not blame premier clubs from "taking away" their town kids.

And Rays fans, I am NOT one of the posters who continually rips Rays teams. My daughter has friends who play for the Rays and I completely respect the Rays teams and their parents. The Rays have great teams and I openly have no problem saying that.

My problem with the Rays is that their officials - JK, SM, MA - completely supported these rules AND those same Rays officials make up a large part of SRI's Board of Directors. The net result gives Rays teams less competition in state cup play and a cakewalk to regionals. Even Rays parents have to see the hypocrisy in this.

Come on, all of what I just wrote here is common sense, isn't it?

As a Rays parent we do not want to have a "cake walk" to Regionals, the first year we went we actually played some pretty competitive Teams and could have easily lost in the finals to a Town Team (WFF), we had a tough game and only won by 1-0 and we played a very physical and competitive team.

Last year was a different story but that is because of who we got to play against, as far as I know they get drawn from who submits their teams to play..correct me if I am wrong I do not know all the ins and outs? There were some town teams that could have really
                      given us some competition.

I find it very hard to beleive that there reasoning for this rule was to "block" competition and to make it easier for the Rays....I guess we will all just have to wait and see how this plays out in the spring.

Heard Bayside U14 girls blasted the rays yesterday 7-0 dont think rays will win that SC age bracket. This all sounds like its about only one team at the rays the U13 girls yes they are good and yes they are going to be hard to beat. as for the rest of the club they might not win any other SC bracket ever again. Get over it the club is dead leave the 13 girls alone and end this thread. You want to talk about SRI start a new thread.

Ok, then is there any validity to an SRI official getting fired???? JB

(By the way, I am going to start signing my posts. I think that leaving "unregistered" posts is too confusing. I am not a poster who has taken cheap shots at Rays teams and I want to make sure the forum knows that. I think my posts are fact-based opinions on youth soccer in RI which represent common thinking among RI parents. I have no personal animosity toward anyone with the Rays or SRI. I do, however, take issue with their policies.)

It may not have the reasoning behind the rule, but it is certainly the net result. JB
