That's pretty much what Club soccer is about too. The teams that travel all over the place, no matter how good, are showcasing their top player. The rest are just along for the ride. It would be cheaper for the remaining parents to just pay for that kids college!

But let's face it. It is fun to watch your kid play on a good team. And maybe dream about college play too. I have accepted the fantasy and don't mind paying for it. I understand that my kid probably won't play in college, probably will not get a scholarship, and may not even want to play in college.

Local kids do better to play in the good local tournaments in their area. The II and III college coaches don't have recruiting budgets so they pop in at some of the tournaments .... especially the good indoor ones because that's off season for them. A decent player who goes to a decent II or III school to learn and play some soccer is way better off than sitting the bench on a I team that recruits world wide.

Do II and III schools even have scholarship offers?

Not a certain state cup team, that coach plays everyone even a few that should not be on the team. Oh, well sometimes it's all who you know.
