He carded some minor stuff and let more egregious fouls go. He never let something go as an advantage.

The strangest thing he did was when a Ponaganset girl got hurt. She apparently received a head injury. He did stop play. Two Ponaganset coaches came onto the field. Normally with a minor injury a kid will be up in a couple of minutes. But this kid was nearly motionless for about 5-6 minutes. Moron move #1: After what seemed like an awfully long time for a kid to be down, A couple of concerned Parent/EMT's were in the crowd and attempted to help, but they were not allowed. He held his stop sign hand and vehemently prevented two professional medical people from helping. Moron move #2: After about 7 minutes, the parents of the kid had had enough and went onto the field. Our Ref tried to prevent them from coming to their daughters aid. He yellow carded the parents and all the parents in the stands. I think the Father of the girl just laughed at the idiot. I'm sure that the EMT's will be entering a formal complaint as should every parent that witnessed this fools actions.

I was at the game, but am not an EWG or Ponaganset parent. I was there to watch the later game, and wanted to see who we would be playing if we won. I thought the refs were ridiculous in the case in which the Ponaganset girl was hurt. However, the EWG parents informed me that the EWG coach is an EMT, so when he went on to the field, there was an EMT with the girl, but the Ponaganset parents probably did not know this.

The EWG forwards have, in every game I have seen them, which is now 4, absolutely plowed over everyone in their way, like you say. But when they have the ball, and a defender gets in their way but does not get control of the ball, what is the foul? I'm asking, because I don't know.

As for the calls in the rest of the EWG game and in the second game, the calls were what I have seen in every other game. An even mix.

The Ponaganset paretns still had every right to be fruious about being denied access to their player (daughter) in this case. The game was outrageoulsy physical and it is amazing that no one else was severley injured.

          EWG is The Evil Empire?

Perhaps the "Evil Empire" nickname is meant to be humorouse--but to the poster who mentioned the EWG forwards "plowing over everyone," keep in mind that they play 2 freshman and 1 sophomore pretty much the whole game up front. Are the D2 juniors and seniors out there really being pushed around all that much by these youngsters?

HELLO--it was on the news last night. sports news Coverage showed an EWG player pushing right off of a Ponaganset defender before shooting a shot. Egregious foul, but not called. Evil Empoire is fitting.

First of all, the EWG forwards are the best in D2. And please drop the Freshman card. The EWG forwards are strong, fast and physical. And if the Refs don't call the foul then it isn't a foul. It is obvious that all three enjoy the physical part of the game - there is nothing wrong with that. But you can't deny that the Ponaganset defenders were getting knocked around.

Projo reports a couple of D1 teams looking to move to D2. Anyone have any insider info on how this process works?

i know it is a long time ago but can anyone explain why the portsmouth coach switched around his position players when they played lasalle in the playoffs. The first time they played meehan had one shot. he moved girls around and she killed them. too bad they really had a chance to win it this year

There were a number of really good teams in D1 this year. Portsmouth being one of them. Sounds like a bad idea to move players off their "comfort zone positions", late in the season.

                            Which positions were juggled?

Obviously the back since they shut down meehan first game. Had the best athlete on the field (MS), who totally got screwed in all state selections btw, up front. While she did score a great goal, she did not have as much as an impact in the semis as she did the first time they met where she was all over the place. She was one of those that the coach even praised as being one players who helped shut down meehan. Seems to me that back and middle wins championships on that level as apparent from the 1-0 scores in last couple of finals.

Why would you ever have your best player as a defender? What is easier - Scoring goals or preventing goals? In High School the best player will be either a Center Mid or a Forward. You might slide your best player into a more defensive position to finish a close game but I don't agree with that move.

                                M. for LaSalle is not that hard to stop on a high school team. Take your best defender and mark her. Double her if she gets the ball. She scored nearly all the goals for LaSalle which either means that she doesn't like to share or the other forwards are not good finishers. Either way, not hard to do IMO.

Typically the All State selections are pretty good/fair, though I have seen a few political selections.
