    Got that right

The boys side is better than the girls side. 60% winning percent over 4 years and 40% school size. The girls side is aweful because most coaches would rather be the big fish. The problem is that coaches and ad's are taken out the the picture. The principals committee made most of the re alignments and the girls coaches accepted it like lambs to the slaughter. The boys side put up a bigger fighter. Central and PCD probably belong in D2 and Smithfield and East Greenwich belong up.

On the girls side of things, the comparison between school size and skill level is an eye opener. There are teams dominating in D1 that have some of the smallest enrollments. It looks like the towns that have good town programs and have more affluent families that utilize the club system are doing the best.

I really don't like the 4 year window. Soccer teams can be greatly affected by just 1 excellent player, or a group of good players. 1 year may not be enough but 2 years would probably be better.

True for D2--two of the leading teams, EWG and Ponaganset, are rural, agricultural towns with small enrollment. THe larger schools such as N Providence and Woonsocket are closer to the bottom. Is it coaching, dedication, affluence (probabaly not a factor), or something in the water? Who knows, but D2 overall seems fairly well set up. ANy divisioon is going to have its bottom few teams.

You got it right. IMO, you can see a direct correlation between succesful HS teams (and middle school teams, for that matter) and that town's youth program and average income. Face it, soccer has become a sport of the suburbs. The more affluent families are able to get their kids better coaching and better competition.

D2 is pretty good but could have been even better. D3 could have been better too with some very obvious changes.

            Last years data :

            North Providence 3-11-2 D3
            Classical 3-9-4 D3

There were at least 4 better choices from D3 to go to D2. These kids are getting embarrassed because of some selfish adults.

Burrillville and Narragansett would have been obvious choices. Burrillville has scored 73 goals in 9 games.

From D4??? Why? So teams like Burrillville and Narragansett can win every game and score 8 goals per game. Ridiculous.

            Woonsocket
            Tolman

Both did great in D4 in 2009, but a 2 division jump? These kids are probably not having fun!

                Points

The RIIL should award 3 points for a win and 1 point for a tie. By awarding only 2 points for a win, you can equate two ties with one win and that's just not going to create enough of a point spread to separate the teams. These people are idiots!

I think you're right. Not the idiot part. But so far I don't think it would make a difference in the standings. But it definitely could. I thought that it must be just an oversight. Does anyone know if the 2 points for a win and 1 for a tie is real?

Rough day for MSC yesterday against EWG. Lincoln and Mt Hope tied, and Ponagansett continues to roll. Pilgrim plays later. Race will be tight.

EWG really coming into their own. They are a scoring machine! Pilgrim still has the edge in Points per game played but I think that EWG will be #1 in the end.

Sunday's Providence Journal interview with the EWG coach reveals that the offense is being led by freshmen. Could be a move to D1 if they win this year since one would assume they would be a factor for the next few years as well. Or maybe the rules will keep them in D2?

Anyone know how the seedings are done in a 2 division (N & S) league? Are teams seeded 1-8 based on points or 1-4 in the N and 1-4 in the S with 1N playing 4N or 1N playing 4S?

I heard that it would be the top two from each of the three divisions + 2 wild-cards. My guess is that the current top 8 teams will be in the play-offs. By adding Wild-card teams they would then have to put the teams in order of most points after selecting the eight. There can be no Bye's. 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7 etc. This information came from my friend the CIA agent currently working undercover, so it has to be true.

                            4 Lincoln High School

I'm sure they would be fine in D1 and there are a few D1 teams that should probably be D2. Being a D1 team has its coolness factor, but your win percentage will definitely go down. Look at Smithfield. One could argue that they are a stronger team this year than last year but their chances of winning D1 is pretty much zero and being top three just a little better.

Good info, but the question was regarding 2 divisions, not 3.
