Thoughts on LISC

This is the bottom line. All these clubs on LI are the same. The LISC way is no better or different than any other other of the club programs. Don't fall for the marketing. No more transparency or fairness than anywhere else. It comes down to what is most convenient for you.

If you're a parent who happened to play at a high level or went to college and went through the recruiting process, just take it into your own hands. SUSA, LISC....these clubs will say they will guide you, but they won't. They're not going to ask the tough questions of college coaches or do the real leg work. As a parent, you should be asking the college coach for the contact info of half a dozen parents of former players and for former players. Your kid should speak with former players from 2, 3, 4 or 5 years ago, or more, and you should speak with their parents to see if what the coach told them during the recruiting period lined up with what actually happened once their kid played for the school. Those are things that SUSA, LISC or these other clubs are not going to do for you - and you need to find someone that can level your kid honestly. Your kid isn't going to UNC, Penn State etc unless they are a HS All-American or have been involved with a US national youth team.

I am familiar with the girls side. They are not competitive in GA - and really haven't been. Training and management has been the issue. Meghan Frey had the current crop for a couple of years and now they have brought on Shannon Neely - "played" at Ohio State, has coached locally at Fordham as an assistant. Not overly impressed with her abilities at the 14-16+ age group from a club standpoint. And, frankly, she needs a lot of work from a professionalism standpoint.

There are better options than LISC - don't let the GA/Girls Academy **** fool you. There are plenty of good teams out there with excellent training and player support - the GA stuff is all window dressing, it's a poorly run operation on the girls' side. And they are about to go through significant player changes......but the next crop of gullible parents will be waiting to fork over the cash so their kid can get run off the field in GA.

What age group are you interested in?

On the whole - is the boys program the strongest in the area? Probably not but they also just expanded into the younger age groups last year so they haven't had the track record of moving boys through "their program" that some of the other clubs have had.

Like any other club, some years are stronger than others, just as are some coaches. If you're interested, reach out and learn more from them rather than leaning too heavily on the board warriors and trolls here putting down every other program other than their own.

It's a failed league (previously called GDA), at least here in the Northeast. They tried to take on the ECNL and failed. Any clubs that remained in this league probably lost their better players to a nearby ECNL team.

The competition probably isn't much better or on par with playing top tier EDP with a lot less traveling.

GA= Gullible Academy
seriously, Girls academy. ITs the successor to the DA. In other words, the clubs that remained when the dust settled and the DA was discontinued by US Soccer who were unable or did not want to join ECNL.
