Especially given their past history - they were one of the few MLS clubs to go into GDA and their teams were good, then they dropped it like a hot potato.

Maybe they think that by running off to danbury they can escape that little fiasco.

No idea. These pro clubs come in here and just add to the overpriced exclusionary environment already here. NY soccer needs this like it needs a hole in the head.

Do something different or serve some market other than the affluent girls that have been served by youth soccer for years, or go away and leave us alone.

My D plays at WC, the nycfc thing is pretty irrelevant in practice. The team is World Class, its listed as WCFC on ecnl website, nycfc has nothing to do with the teams and do not subsidize anything. Its not even a free uniform from the mls team. Assume that soon it just returns to wcfc uniforms and no one would really mind and should actually end up cheaper.

Agree, while the uniforms were a cool color, NYCFC did not care about the girls at all. They are struggling with their boys teams, we never expected anything from them, and that is exactly what we got. Go RedBulls!

So what does WC on the girls side get from NYCFC? Just the jerseys they play in that they have to pay for?

Pretty much, yes. NYCFC originally got involved in GDA because Kaz wanted to do GDA but the club wanted to stay in ECNL. WC "gave" their GDA acceptance to NYCFC, but it was really just Kaz and his inner circle of coaches (eg. Fredy et al) running it with the NYCFC brand. At that point, NYCFC did provide jerseys at no cost to the players, but coaches, training facility, etc was all WC. At the point where Kaz decided to withdraw from GDA, NYCFC offered to keep their name on the teams (don't know why, probably just marketing). The first year back in ECNL, jerseys were free to the team because they were basically leftover inventory from GDA. But apparently now, a year removed, NYCFC is still letting WC use the name but with no GDA jerseys left in inventory, players need to pay for them.

All told, NYCFC basically just put their name on WC ECNL/ECRL teams and not much else.

Its only the game day kits anyway. The practice gear,pants and jacket are all WC. No one calls it nycfc, just world class.

Why would do this? Just canabalizes more kids from youth soccer clubs in whatever markets they go into. These mls clubs should stay away from the girls unless they are going to provide equal to what they do for boys. Girls do not need to see themselves as second fiddle to boys. No thanks.

What is equal to boys? The boys have a professional pathway. Girls do not. There is a difference between inequality and having two very different pathways.

Of course. Pro clubs of course will give the best coaches, facilities, practice time, attention, training, etc. Etc. To the youth boys over the girls. This is their business and of course it makes sense.

When your talented girl trains and plays with an mls outfit they see this happen and they understand that the boys will always get the best because the boys have a path to a pro league that actually can operate as a successful business.


That is what it is but at a non pro clubs, sometimes it is the girls side that gets the best at certain clubs. And they see that.

Now maybe the 2nd tier training at nycfc is better than the best a female focused club is offering. You need to decide what makes sense for your girl. If she is observant and the 2nd class treatment is a negative influence, maybe you choose a different environment.

Not sure what this thing is with NYCFC talent centers, but D trained in the Red Bulls RDS program from U9-14 in a mostly-co-ed environment, and it was the best training she ever had. RDS has some all-girls sessions and summer-showcase teams and they were also very good.

mine too but at the time the teams were not co-ed and the difference between the girls and the boys was significant. the girls side was controlled by aggressive parents and behaviors were ignored that would not have been tolerated on the boys side for a minute.

Interesting. I don't have a son, so I have no idea what happens on the boys side. For D and her participation in RDS, we didn't see any of the aggressive parent stuff. Honestly, D was probably on the lower end of the talent-level on those RDS showcase teams but never had an issue with playing time, and I found all the other parents to be fine. Certainly there were a few players who got more attention, but from my POV they were standout players who deserved it.

I would absolutely expect that the boys side has more to it as there is incentive for RDS to prepare players for the RB Academy teams, but I absolutely felt like we got our money's worth with D participating on the girls' side at RDS.
