If it were up to me I'd drop the corporate tax rate to zero and instead raise the taxes on the rich individuals that own them. Raise the taxes on an individual they are unlikely to leave the country. Raise the taxes on a corporation and they will incorporate somewhere else in a heartbeat costing us not only tax money but jobs. The lowering of the corporate tax rates combined with the dramatic cuts to the tax rates on remittances of cash sitting in foreign banks has been a godsend to our economy and that benefits all.

The way things work, Trump had to make either the individual or corporate tax reform "temporary", and he clearly didn't want to make the corporate reform temporary because he knew that if the Republicans ever lost control of the Senate that the corporate reform would be eliminated. So he made the individual reform temporary knowing that Democratic senators would be more likely to support renewing the individual reform when it comes time to vote on it.

When I first heard of the reform, I was fearful of what it would do to the deficit, but while the deficit has grown, apparently tax revenue actually grew in 2018-2019 because of growth in the economy (obviously pre-COVID).

The corporate tax is a scam that politicians are able to perpetrate only because 99.9% of Americans fail to understand simple principles of economics. The tax can be paid only by one or more of the following: (1) shareholders in the form of lower profits, (2) employees in the form of lower wagers; and/or (3) customers in the form of higher prices. The only point of the corporate tax is to disguise who actually pays it in what amounts. But that comes at a high cost by distorting economic incentives (forcing companies to allocate capital in a way that is best for tax purposes but not for productivity purposes) and wasting lots of money on compliance (and avoidance/minimization). No sane economic system would have corporate taxes. Decide who you want to pay the taxes and allocate it directly to those people. Would be far less costly and far more efficient. Unfortunately, the masses would not understand that.
