Actually OP said they disagree with posts that say GDA was a failure. Newsflash, it was. It existed for 2 purposes-something to point to and say-"see, USSF doesn't employ gender discrimination!" and to grab $$$ and market share from ECNL.

The reality is that youth soccer and many many other youth sports are the purview of players with lots of disposable income to fiance it. There are few exceptions to this and that is just the american way.

The Girls Academy announced the launch of the first-ever player-led board, the Girls Academy Advisory Panel (GAAP).

The GAAP is a strategic initiative that aligns with the GA’s ‘by the players, for the players’ philosophy. The GAAP provides GA players the opportunity to represent their team, club, and conference to take ownership in their experience and overall development of the GA by collaboratively and collectively using their voice. Interested players go through an application and selection process and will serve a one-year term.

“Now more than ever, young people deserve the right to be heard. They are more capable than we ever give them credit for,” said Tiffany Weimer, Oakwood Soccer Club. “With that in mind, the GAAP will serve as a constant reminder of an often forgotten notion: youth sports are about the players and the experiences that they want to have.”

“Tiff came up with a great concept and through the collaborative effort of dozens of GA leaders across the country, we were able to construct a model that will further enhance the journey of the GA players,” said Ashlee Fontes-Comber, GA board of directors. “The GAAP really stays true to the mission and core values of the GA. We are excited to watch the evolution of the GA experience through the eyes, minds, and voices of the players.”

The GA replaces the former Development Academy (DA) for most of the former girls’ DA clubs. The season kicks off in August with the first showcase event in November
Wow, maybe you can proudly boast that your kid is in the GAL's GAAP!!!
God these people are so bad at this!!!

No but a good dose of reality about who exactly is playing youth soccer seems to be lacking on this forum.

Did you stock up on tin foil at Costco to make your hats? There is not a hint of anti-GAL campaign and nobody is worried. People applauding the efforts of a league, but acknowledging another terrible acronym does not equal anti-league campaign.

I think GAL is destined to fail, but I do have to give them props for getting players involved - or at least pretending to.

Why will it fail? Just curious as to why it cant survive.

I think it needs to just form a deal with USYS to be the top tier of their platform, and include pro/rel. With that it can probably build its product over a few years to actually rival ECNL. As it stands, there are too many issues. A 10 month calendar but where different states have different HS seasons in the same conference? How can that work? Reality that the clubs will probably not be as easy about giving HS passes as they are saying. Some states dont even allow you to be rostered on both HS and club simultaneously. I understand the desire for a 10 month program but it just doesnt feel completely feasible while concurrent with HS.

Allot of the other things they are trying to do are good, like a player voice. Thats something every league should incorporate.

Because they're pretending (and charging $$$) as if the competition level will be the same as GDA was, or what ECNL is, and it's not. The strong clubs that stayed in GAL (and there aren't very many) ALL lost top players.

Every. Single. Club lost top players. That's not even debatable. If you want to question whether or not that will dramatically change the level of competition, that's something different. But all of these GAL teams will look different compared to their GDA existence.

Crazy thing is so did CSA and they did not have too many to hemorrhage to begin with...they will be lucky to have teams at some age groups....05,04 etc.....

The BIGGEST issue with that is USYS/EDP is TEAM oriented while GA and ECNL/ECRL are CLUB oriented. Basically not all teams in any given age group would be good enough to hold spots as better teams are promoted. They would have to replace the club v club division which would then expose how bad most of their 2nd teams are as that is where a lot are hiding.
