You and the other posters are ALL correct. USSF did start GDA to ease some damage of the lawsuit. They first approached ECNL for a collaboration, but talks broke down and that's when USSF said FU, we're going to put you out of business. LOLOL.

They were thrilled to dump it when they realized the boys side was disintegrating...

so we are now to believe GAL
        was created to develop players?
or are they still just after market
        share?

GAL was formed to give former GDA teams who did not get into eCNL a place to play. GAL is not gaining any market share or development at this point in time. Although someone somewhere will make a dime off of it for a bit.

then why not just join EDP if its not
            about market share? the players
can play with the various other
acronym leagues. I'm not sold they
are in it for the development of players

They couldn't go back to EDP or NPL, they were *too special* for those leagues, lol. No carrot to dangle if you're just another EDP team.

Exactly. Many were NPL level players and clubs before and still are. They just can't admit that.

"ECNL was doing a good job" . Where they? ECNL clubs defined the job as W/Ls vs each other and College placements. Lets be real. Colleges HAVE to recruit players every year. Some years are good, some bad, few players are special and most are average.

You are essentially measuring yourself against yourself. Neither league was doing a great job of player development. That part, the key to most players success at good Colleges or beyond, is being done late in the cycle at College. USSF wanted to cater to better players and they did. The problem was they dealt really poorly with all the other players needed to actually support a national league!!

The bigger question is can College soccer continue to produce World class players relative ot other more professional environments. Given current issues re virus, there is no guarantee that the investments in Womens soccer around the world will continue at a rate required to support the RoW continuing to develop. Who knows.

Bottom line is most people should judge the leagues and clubs based on how it works for them. Thats all that counts

Yes that’s the well kept secret in these academies they so promoted DA and trashed EDP at the same time (even though they had EDP teams as well) thaT there was no going back. Shame, EDP 1st Div is quite competitive.....
