We just watched as a couple of talented players leave because the coach did not like the families. These weren't bad families but this coach who we use to like is mean if you don't kiss his butt. I understand this is life but when you see adults play high school games it makes you wonder about all this. All we can do is make nice and wait for the next coach to replace this person.

Sounds more like middle school games.

All these clubs and coaches are the same!!! There was a pretty good player on my kid's team that played the same position as the club/coach's "SUPERSTAR". Coach would rip player apart and pull her off the field for doing the EXACT SAME THING as Superstar, who he would applaud and encourage with lots of "good idea"s and other BS comments people make when players screw up.
Midway through the season, kid asks the coach why he is so hard on her for doing the same things Superstar does. Now this is a nice kid, who was sincere in her approach and admitted she was intentionally styling her play after Superstar's because she was hoping to get some of the same accolades and opportunities that Superstar was getting. Kid literally asked the coach to point out the differences between her play and Superstar's so she could work on them and rise to the same level as Superstar. Coach gave her some no real answer kind of answer and sent her on her way. Guess what happened next!
Kid who had been a routine starter, playing at least 2/3 of each half barely touched the field again. It was freaking insane!!!! I only know about the conversation because when the kid was benched for a few games, I thought she was hurt and asked the parents of she was OK. That's when they told me what had gone on between kid and coach and that they felt it was retribution for challenging him and daring to question favoritism Superstar was getting. After a few more weeks of this nonsense, the kid left the team. Don't know where she ended up, but I do know Superstar got a boatload more undeserved titles, accolades and opportunities. The whole thing is freaking gross-I can't wait until my kid is done with this crap.

You just outlined what a coach at Susa has done to a handful of rising talented kids. Very hard to comprehend what the upside to doing this is for the team or the individual kids who are on the other end of some malicious behavior by these fools. I am glad the kid left but I am sure her confidence took a big hit. And why because of some ***hole who is a drag on society and our resources.

Poor kids, they don't even know that the deck is stacked against them if they don't fit into Susa's top categories of "successful players"-

Category 1-The Recruiters. Kids (or families) who make the club money by getting (or claiming to be the reason) other kids to join. Doesn't matter if other kids are good or not (bonus points if they are) as long as their checks clear. If you can do this in multiple age groups or different genders, kid will receive every award, accolade, opportunity the club can possibly give/get for them!

Category 2-The Feathers in the Cap. Kids who made a name for themselves (or just played for) at clubs/teams that Susa considers a competitor or someone coach/club just wants to stick it to. At the very least, the kid will see way more playing time than ability/contributions warrant...At best they will make the list of top league players in the country, with varying accolades, rewards and opportunities along the way.

Category 3- The Spenders. Kids who sign up for all the "extras"-camps, clinics, gym partnership programs etc. Extra bonus points if there are multiple kids in the family participating or if kid gets other kids to sign up or at least claim to be the reason other kids are spending money on these extras.

Category 4- The In Your Face-ers. The kids whose parents are either constantly sucking up to coaches/club higher ups or always threatening to go somewhere else-because "so and so" really wants their kid and is willing to get them the sun, moon and stars! This works particularly well if "so and so" is someone that Susa views as a competitor.

If your kid checks off at least 2 of these categories, they're golden! Good luck suckers!!!!

Can’t speak to this firsthand but have heard this more then once with Susa so I am not surprised by this post. Daughter trying to stick it through with lisc and there are good things about the clubs but the spenders and in your facers who usually have the less talented kids get the attention there. Was hoping things would change with Frey coming over last year but if anything it’s only been worse. Seems she is all over the place with other stuff. Lisc is getting bigger and needs to hire ‘full time’ people who put talent and ahead of politics.

Sadly politics always have and always will play a big role in all these clubs. Once in a while you'll see a truly talented kid get some recognition, but it's rare. Sometimes there are players that are so good they can't be ignored by opposing club coaches and college coaches, no matter how hard their own club pushes for the favorites. Once their own club realizes that others are acknowledging the player, they usually jump on board to some degree because they don't want to look stupid and they want to be able to take credit for the success the kid earns on their own, despite the neglect and crappy treatment by the coach/club.

I wrote the post you quoted. If you guess his initials with my vague description I would be impressed.

                      His initial are?
