New FC Barcelona Academy NY - the other one went off the rails
Originally posted by Unregistered View PostI mean the ratification document (that you can't seem to link to) does state it's a 50/50 JV with PSP, so why couldn't this be true? the ratification document stated that there was *no* capital commitment by FCB, so obviously the opex of running the team is being done by somebody, who "owns" the club. in effect this should mean they own their piece of the JV, the rights to run the club, the associated revenue (less royalties to FCB) and expense.

NY Times Interview
Q. Barcelona has opened a handful of academies in the United States this year. What are the differences between the academy models Barcelona is undertaking here and the club’s main academy, La Masia, in Spain?
A. We have one school model: the academy, the scholars. They work the same all over the world, in different languages. What we do, really, is to teach people from 6 to 14 years old to play soccer, to play football, in our way of playing. That’s what we do.
Then we have something different. Long Island is different, it is owned by us. Arizona is different.
Gràcies,
Josep Maria Bartomeu
FC Barcelona President

Nobody is disputing FCB's involvement in the JV. However, you are disputing that Prospect Sports is in charge of the day to day activities. Prospect Sports is obligated by the JV to pay royalties and a percentage of profits to FCB. Now, are you suggesting that Prospect Sports is kicking up royalties and a piece of the action from a complex that doesn't exist yet or does FCB get its end from the tuitions collected after its all said and done with expenses? It's tuition right because if FCB was getting its cut from the complex then Keith Delucia and his crew are dumber then the stupidest person on the forum. (Yeah, I'm talking to you, Smh)
Dress it up any way you want, call it whatever you like, it doesn't really matter. If Prospect Sports controls the tuitions then they do indeed run the club. They pay the bills and one of them is what they have to kick up to FCB.
Prospect Sports is selling the right to manage the tuitions. FCB can claim ownership because of the JV agreement.
See that's where Prospect Sports deal is different and smart. All the other Barca academy franchises are most likely paying a higher royalty fee but Prospect Sports made them a partner and sold them on the NY market and the complex.

Now you're REALLY grasping at straws- I will allow you call it somewhat a "Limited Partnership" but that's about it. The partnership is Barca brings in the players, training staff, the staff sets up scheduling of games/training also AND PSP controls the facility and I'm sure guides FCB about the NY market. FCB also has a clause that they can purchase the facility/property if it sees it financially feasible down the road.
Does every club have issues with how it's run? heck yeah- BUT hopefully it will get better.

That is false
Prospect Sports controls the tuitions. They employ the trainers and staff that work for the academy. The only skin in the game that FCB has is use of their brand.

However, your assumptions are no more important than mine. In fact in my opinion, they are less important than mine.
Signed,
Larry.
