All of it is driving families out of soccer . Registration numbers for our town travel program has been trending down the last few years ,and this year, for the first time in people's memory, our medium sized fairly strong HS girls team had no cuts at tryouts. it isn't just about the top leagues. They will keep most players because families are so anxious about paying for college and getting any hook they can into better schools. Youth soccer is much more than that. It's the rec leagues, travel, lower level club teams. Many bemoan the lack of a soccer culture in this country and losing players certainly isn't going to help that

Grassroots soccer is in real danger of failing. Thank you to US Soccer for empowering the SUSA's and Barca's of the world and killing the very places they recruit their players from.

that is only if you were affected....for younger teams that have formed the last couple years don't know anything about it....its strictly relative.

All of this is why part of me hopes for my kid to stop wanting to play club soccer, so we can just be done with it and get the hell out. The travel, the expenses, the bullsh-t that goes on with money grubbing coaches selling positions and playing time in closed auctions. It is horrible and it ruins what was once so much fun.

guess what...if your kid gets replaced by someone that is better...move to another team perhaps that plays in a lower division...sorry but most little johnny numbnuts and Rosie Rottencrotchs are not good enough to play where they are at.

for every youth player who spends there time playing fortnite and other video games, there is another player working hard that wants to take their spot on the team....this is competitive soccer...it is not life, but is used as a precursor to real life when our brat kids become adults.

no doubt if a kid comes to the team and is better then they are better and that is life. but you can't deny that some clubs have a problem with pushing for extra money from parents because that stuff happens all the time and even on these ecnl and da teams.

its a business...we know this going in...and since we know this going in its no surprise and therefore we have no right to complain (you signed up for it)....if the kid just wants to play, go to the inter league where its not really competitive and no standings are kept.

NYSC G05's are a perfect case study- A very strong team that survived; the age change, NYSC/FC Westchester merger, the formation of GDA. Early results were terrific, they won back to back state cups, did well in league play as well as tournaments. Fast forward, they had 2 brutal coaches ( Bruno and Rhouz) who killed the moral of certain players while pumping up others ( sometimes justified other times not). The end result is they lost at least 6 quality players and while they have a strong core they have no depth and have regressed to a middle of the pack team. Management shuffles these coaches around but does nothing meaningful to address these issues.

BTW the training is good but not great. The biggest draw is getting to play with like minded girls who are serious about their commitment to the sport.

If only that was the issue. Some of these teams need players....period. Warm bodies with a checkbook. So my kid may be hardworking ans dedicated and talented but there are not enough with the resources for all the fees and travel to go around. So pay through the nose to do all this travel to play not very great soccer. Situation is not good anymore.

Clint Dempsey on the USMNT used to commute 4 hrs each way for training....His parents sacrificed everything for him....if you don't have the balls to do the same...stfu and stop hating other people and/or other organizations or anyone else for your own shortcomings.

Since the title of the thread is NY GDA no club in the area is worth driving four hours for. Not one.
