GDA - how will this work?

How will they create the initial pool w/o having a tryout?

And who will be the scouts? Will they roam tournaments like recruiting college coaches?

The GDA will only involve a small population segment and they are not guaranteed to get the top, elite talent. Some will def say no.

    --------------------------------------

How does someone join (tryout for) an Academy club?

Anyone interested in playing for a Girls' Academy club will need to contact the club directly for specific information regarding the player selection process. The Girls' Development Academy firmly believes that the traditional open tryout is a highly flawed and ineffective model for player identification and evaluation. The expectation is that Academy clubs move to using a more systematic scouting model to identify and recruit new talents and invite these players to trial for an extended period with the current player pool.

Once clubs are announced, you will find club contact information on the Academy website at www.ussoccerda.com.

How many players will be on a roster?

As a combined age group, players are encouraged to play up and clubs will have groups of players that they will move up and move freely among age groups within their Academy program. The projected pool would equate to approximately 23 players per age group for a total of 69 full-time players amongst the three age groups (U-14/15, U-16/17, and U-18/19).

I was puzzled by that as well. I thought the hold some try outs on the boy side (although probably more likely they have ided players they want some how).

Do they have try out for the boys? IF so and if try outs are so flawed, why are boy's academy clubs having them?

Will the "id" process be the same for all area clubs? Or will it be each his own?

Originally the boys had very open public tryouts. In later years it was by invitation only

NYCFC had affiliate clubs who nominated kids for tryouts

So how is the match made between the player and the academy if a player is not already in this club or another high visibility (and accompanying high cost) club at young ages?

This seems destined to exclude even more talent from high level soccer then already happens.

I believe that the theory is that if someone is really playing at that high a level they will contact the GDA near them and ask to be considered on their own pretty much the same way families contact colleges that they are interested in.

I would assume that it's incumbent on the parent to reach out for a private evaluation

Is that how it operates in the boy's academy?

                  - private tryouts

Whoa! GDAs will have to have affiliates? More SUSA/ISA/Atletico?

I see more mega clubs like Cedar Stars which already has teams in six dfferent locations. I think CS is up to a whopping 48 teams entered in EDP.

How else will the GDAs pay for the team travel??

You don't have to have affiliates it gives you a pool to choose from. That's how NYCFC is doing it

Coach recommendation/word of mouth seems to be the most frequent mean of identification for boys DA. DA club hears about a player and goes to check them out, invites them to a practice. Training centers provide a few others, but realistically GDA clubs won't have these for some time, if ever. It's really just the MLS clubs that have the training centers. It seems finding a surprise player at an open tryout is pretty rare.

How much does MLS subsidize the BDA? Do the boys incur any costs?

Every BDA club is different. Some are free. Some are ridiculously expensive. Most are somewhere in-between.

MLS clubs have their own teams. Typically it's free to play at MLS clubs including the travel for their players only

Non MLS Clubs are all over the Map. Some have reduced rates while others pay full freight.

USSF has stated a goal for DAP to be free. But they are a long way from that goal on boys side
