Any advice? DD did physical therapy and summer soccer to get back into shape. Still can't play a full game though. Have a knee brace and Spider Tech/kinetic tape. Any other ideas? Thx.

My son was just diagnosed. The only other advice the doctor had was to ice it and use ibuprofen, both to keep the inflammation down. He also said it could be gone in 6 months. Let's hope our kids don't have it for long!

Similar - they basically have to grow out of it. Lots of ice after playing and ibuprofen. Also exercises that stretch the quads and a muscle roller on the lower quads. However monitor your player - it's one thing to play through some discomfort but it shouldn't be truly painful. Sometimes they should sit.
The straps that go just below the knee? Not sure they help but they're really cheap on amazon and one of my kids said it did help - probably psychological but not harm no foul

My daughter has battled with OS. Several things that make a difference:
- Try to take some time off, even if it is only a few days... But more time off is better.
- Put Dr Scholls insoles (like the Active Series, something with a heal cushion and arch support)
- Take Advil before practice
- Ice right after practice
- Massage. This is basically massaging the Quads from the top (hip) down to just above the knee. Use the palm of your hand, with a downward stroke down the quad. This lengthens the muscles, releasing the pull that is has on the tendon (what causes the pain). Apply as hard as they can take it. Only need to be for about 2-minutes. Do this everyday.
- Once the flair up of pain subsides, your kid needs to begin a daily stretching routine. Stretch both hammies and quads. You may want to throw in ACL prevention exercises too.
- My daughter has used KT Tape and Chopats. I'm not sure how much they have helped. A think a little bit.
They need to keep stretching even when they feel better. They also may need to continue the massage, especially before a game or practice.

Another thing that helps is compression shorts. The OS is usually worse if her muscles are cold and tight.

We took our DD to NYC Langone Urgent Care Center n the city after our kid was taken out by an opposing player. They always have an ortho in call. While we we're waiting for the x-rays to come back, all of the docs came in, talked to DD about OS, showed off their bumps, and told stories. She felt better knowing she wasn't the only one who randomly falls to the turf for no reason. 😀

Daughter swears by tape. 1 horizontal piece under the knee cap. Two piece starting on shin bone. One piece each around outside knee upward. Join both at top on lower thigh.
