Often times it's the ones who seem odd and off that end up doing something unexpected.

I'm so done with that site. The bashing of certain people always irked me (granted I didn't know them but LM's biases were clear). But recently I asked legitimate questions about GDA or Surf (simple questions about how something will work) they didn't get posted or he pulled the jealousy care/your kid sucks/ they won't want her anyway/go play for your shi**y travel club/league. So childish. I sometimes read other state threads on this site and that stuff happens as well, but at least it isn't under the pretense of being fairly moderated. Free for all is better than censored.
Tell others to come on board. Let BOTN die the ugly death it deservesComment

Surf could very well succeed but it's going to take a couple of years. They need teams and good players. They are taking what they can get this year and undoubtedly will get better players and weed out the ones who can't cut it in the next few years.
It's the Surf hype and promises that some of us seasoned-soccer peeps that caused us to pause and question. The Surf folks clearly assumed that LI and NYC folks would know about SD Surf's reputation when in fact only those predominantly involved in ECNL would be aware. They also tried to sell the GDA as a hook to draw players. They could very well get one in the future but I'd be shocked if they got it this year. The promises new non-LI personnel who would move to LI didn't materialize. They lucked out with the Stony Brook head coach who just recently relocated for the SB job (and not NY Surf). The Fordham head coach is a nice addition but she's not a transplant from outside the Metro area.
Larry most likely didn't answer b/c he doesn't know jack and couldn't answer. He's certainly happy to pass himself off like he does but truth is he only knows what the Surf folks tell him. He's never had kids in ECNL so he doesn't know the competition level, the travel, the cost, and the commitment it takes to do it. Eric would know more than d-bag Larry. He certainly hasn't had boys in the DA and doesn't know what it takes to be there either. The fellow poster who has a kid in the DA could speak better (and he could chime in on ECNL too).
Larry lives vicariously through others and passes himself off as a player when in fact he just runs a message board about soccer to make money. Quite different than having your butt hostage on I-95 in CT trying to get home from FC Stars tourney!!!!! Hell I bet Larry hadn't left LI for a soccer game in 25 years!Comment

Didn't make BOTN yesterday. Was in response to the HBC parent saying club had 4-5 strong commits.

HBC has some commits but you can't argue with ECNL success. The only feeder clubs I saw on the announced GDA lists were predominantly ECNL with some Super Y clubs. Maybe the next announcement will have some NPL clubs.Comment
