When you’re a gypsy branch of a club with no home and only two competitive teams I guess you do what you have to do to lure business your way. RT suck those daddy peckers.

Pretty normal - usually around when school wraps up. Kids are to off to camp, families take vacations. Sometimes if games get pushed back later because of weather cancellations it can even be a struggle to field a team.

Six a year is a bit over the top. By MS it's usually 2-4, even less in HS because of the shorter season. It should all be spelled out in the contract how many a team is doing, sometimes with a sentence saying if others are added beyond that amount they will collect extra fees.

Make sure to ask what's included - all costs associated with the event including any coach travel?

MFA parent here. 2 tournaments per season are included. The rest is based on mutual agreement between parents and coach. A strong team usually participates in 3-4 per season. Also, tuition is significantly lower than other clubs. We pay less than $2000 for the season. U8/9/10 is even cheaper.

                  10

Pre season, mid-season, end of the season
Throw in EDP Cup, State cup, that’s 5 per season.
Kind of easy to play 10 a year. Again depends on the Coach

Still not a straightforward answer... your tuition may be cheaper but if you add in those “mutually agreed upon tournaments” I’m sure your paying the same or more than other clubs/academies.

That’s what I am thinking.MF may charge lower tuition but all the extra out of pocket tournaments will have you paying the same or more. So why not just charge that so it does not put paying customers in uncomfortable positions having to “agree” to something they may not want to do. I don’t get it. Also you should be able to provide a new paying family the total fee, not a base fee and then all the possible add-one’s.

But what if an opportunity arises to go to a good event that wasn't expected? Sometimes things happen. Also, if they agree to more events, are you just paying for the fee or also coach travel? The cost per player for a $1500 event is close to $80 per player. So add two events and you've only added $160. Coach travel is a partial write expense off so families shouldn't be expected to cover that.

Usually it's not additional add ons events that get you but the fine print on uniforms, winter training, futsal, often times a required pre-season camp. Ask questions and get it all in writing.

This is exactly why it should be a very straightforward fee, if it’s so cheap why wouldn’t it just be included in the fee? If the coach knows ahead of time to tell families, why is there a base fee and then more out of pocket fees? . I don’t understand why it is so hard. Unless these tournaments require a lot of travel and then the expense goes way up.

It's very easy to understand. A highly competitive team might do more tournaments and travel than a lower performing team. The additional fees for tournaments are not as much as a high base tuition based on my experience with previous clubs and my kids get much more. So much more flexibility than just getting the standard 2 tournaments per season. Both my kids did at least 2 additional tournaments per season on top of the 2 that were included in the lower base tuition.

It’s a local low level club tournament that an Academy should be embarrassed to play in.
All new Jersey tournaments are embarrassments. There are 4-5 good tournaments in the US per year. After that, you will need to travel to Europe.
