Bottom line is a club is only as loyal to their players depending on the number of players that show up for tryouts.
But alas, lucky for the parents of STA that the club will never get into the ecnl and therefore not attract the better players during high-school,

No issue with a club replacing current players at the end of the season, following tryouts. Issue with current ECNL clubs in NJ is continuous tryouts at the detriment of kids that were enrolled at the beginning of the season, cheating them of the expectation that was created for them. Both PDA and MF are guilty of this abuse.
If STA joined the ECNL, certainly more kids would flock to it. It is not clear that this implies STA would also get into the business of cheating kids out of playing time mid-season. Nor is it clear that just because PDA and MF have adopted this tactic that it can be assumed that all ECNL clubs do this and new potential clubs would do this as well. If anything, it might create competition between ECNL clubs and they might be forced to rein in some of the egregious behavior.
There are competitive teams in both ECNL and GA. At the moment, on average, ECNL is more competitive. However, GA is a new league and things change quickly in the youth soccer landscape. There is likely a path to play in college from both leagues. The large coach attendance at GA showcases is an indicator of that. In any case, with the knowledge that being on PDA or MF teams means far lower playing time on average than being on a GA team in NJ, families have to decide for themselves whether it is important for the kid to play and have a good time in childhood or dream about playing in college while sitting on the bench dressed in an ECNL uniform.

STA would never turn down a very good player in the middle of the year after tryouts and if that player took someone’s starting spot , so be it. So your premise that STA is some sort of virtuous club -is a False one. The GA is nothing special and STA is a business that takes full advantage of the opportunities that are afforded to them.

My kid plays in a neigh boring state. GA club has kids trying out all year and the roster went from 17 all the way up to 23 by end of the year with multiple kids from outside the club added throughout fall, winter and early spring. GA, ECNL, NPL, EDP the clubs are all run on the same business model. Only the MLS Academies are different.
ANyone saying their GA doesnt add players is making a mistake of confusing the lack of demand on their specific club with a lack of demand in the market.

What stops them from doing it so much now is demand.

Tim and Kelly will do anything they can do draw new kids in, at anytime of the year. They also pressure existing kids to stay. Doesn't anyone ever wonder why STA sends offers out for the next year in March? They don't want players having a chance to go to others tryouts and possibly leave.
