Ylon wasn’t initially give GA team because didn’t have coaching cert for it. But it was his EDP USYS 06 team (which if you look under awards history on GS was ranked as high as 19th nationally and 5 in region one several years ago) which was converted to the GA and given to Neil. Ylon then completely rebuilt the USYS team with new roster. Now he will have both. His 05s meanwhile won state cup defeating RealNJ last week. If he had half the talent some coaches get by virtue of their ECNL status (DB!) he’d do twice as much with it.

Well said my friend. Ylon is one of the best coaches in NJ and super nice guy and very relax. STA will be in great hands.

One of the best coaches.....sounds great, can you talk about his style of play.

Nobody seems commenting how he trains the girls.

        what makes him so good?

He’s perfect for laid back, relaxed GA style and that is to be appreciated and commended. Unlike some of these other lunetic yelling and screaming coaches.

How to you take advice from a parent that can’t describe his training methods.

I keep hearing nice guy, laid back non screamer. That’s great but it doesn’t tell you anything about his training and style of play.

Cryer and Miles didn't have their A license either yet they were coaching DA. Only Tim had his A license. Its pretty sad that Ylon's biggest accomplishment is coaching a u13 girls in USYS 3 years ago. And its sad that you are basing their success on GotSoccer points.

Ylon is a nice guy thats it. If you want a nice easy going atmosphere for your kid to play in then have at it. If you are looking for a top level coach on a top level team you should look elsewhere.

What’s wrong with a relaxed fun easy going atmosphere where the kids make their own decisions and have the freedom to play creatively? If you don’t like what the GA provides go play robot football in ECNL.

Huh? That’s your definition of creativity. Creativity implies art and technique. A bunch of monkeys can play free on the pitch, I certainly wouldn’t call it soccer.

Their concern is not proper technical training at the u-preteens . These coaches are more concerned about winning a game. Its so easy to teach" press and cover to capitalize " on the other teams mistakes, who are trying to learn body positioning, first touch ,shifting, opening up to see the whole field and angles and movement from out of the back. As well as comfort on the ball

Most Youth coaches do not have the time or the knowledge to teach such a game. so they shortcut by putting the kids who are now a little bit faster and stronger and have developed prematurely up top to score goals and they play a very direct game. while playing a press and cover defense. These coaches utilize their wingers mostly and avoid the midfield at all cost. This type of game is often rewarded with wins. And happy parents. You will find most coaches play some sort of hybrid of this model in America.

At the u-10 to u14 level

When you watch a team play for the first time, and you do not know much about the game, watch to see if one team keeps the ball more than the other, count the number of passing connections, watch the teams movement without the ball. Is the coaching demanding angles and spacing. Does the goalie punt the ball or is she forced to play out of the back. Forget about the score of the game! Pretend there are NO nets. Just watch the beauty of the game.

You can get an idea of which coach/trainer cares about training and which coach/trainer simply is in it for themselves and the win.

Ask about a coaches track record, who has he coached, what teams?

Go watch the coaches u15 team and above to see how that team plays the game.

You will start to get an ideal of what you need to look for in a coach.

                      Best,

Ok where does Ylon fit with regards to his training compared to the above statement?

I don't pay 3k a year for my kid to relax. She could stay in Rec travel for that. STA once strived to be the best but now your telling me its all about relaxing and having fun. SMH. Thats just sad for STA as a club and I know there are still some very good players there that dont feel the same. They want more. Thats what STA is supposed to be

Also, a parent here. I think you can have both. A relaxed atmosphere that cares about developing technically sound players that are coached well so they play well as a team. This leads to winning games in the most productive way..

This is the same message being sent to players around the GA. It's as if they have accepted defeat and are going with the 'let's have fun' messaging.

What are you talking about? What GA club are you with because this is definitely not the messaging being sent at our club. That’s just stupid.
