Truth be told, if a club wants your daughter they will let you know immediately after the training session is over. For the top programs if there has been contact with the family prior to tryouts they will invite her to train with the team at least twice and then offer her a spot prior to open tryouts. If you go to tryouts and have to wait to hear if your invited back then your not a priority for the top team. It’s very straightforward

There's pros and cons to both and as much as families are juggling decisions so are the clubs. It's a delicate dance this time of year

Certainly but we waited for our offer from a top club We had to wait until after tryouts were over. Got an offer and accepted. She plays 75 percent of the game and we r very happy.

Why is this thread still ongoing. Answered very early. Huh.

Let's be honest, if your child is U12 or older, for girls, you are not bringing your child to an open tryout, if she is being chosen for a high level team. We have not been to an open tryout since my daughter was 9

Unless it is a current ECNL player looking to move to another ECNL team. The club has to be careful in that situation. I dont think that is the case here though

The truth is always the best option with choices. If a club/coach does not respect that a player wants to look at what’s the best fit (especially high school age) for the player based on her abilities and goals then that is not a club you want to stay with. Our experience has been for 99% of the players who moved to a “new opportunity” it was at best a lateral move that did not improve their playing time or college prospects. For those that moved for a chance to start over with a new coach and different players that’s a separate reason. If you are not honest with the coaches there could be consequences. The NJ Soccer landscape is smaller than you think and clubs all know each other’s business. If you are dishonest or not truthful then word spreads about the difficult family and player. That has happened where players from NJ then have to go to PA or NY because of their reputation. When colleges vette players and families that reputation will follow them as well. Being open and honest allows you the freedom to choose. If the player is in that 1% then clubs/coaches understand and will wait till you make a decision. The problem is for the other 99% who think there daughter is in that 1%.

Without being a d**k how can we delay the 2nd choice offer? Of course they want her registered within 24 hrs.
Should we be honest about waiting until all tryouts are finished? Both teams are very good, she would have to work hard to get a starting spot, not a superstar where these teams will be begging for her..
We’re in the same boat. Curious what you said to delay the first offer? Which club did your daughter end up going with?

Being upfront and honest is always the best course of action. If the Coach/club does not respect the circumstances that this is a difficult decision to make especially if your daughter wants to play in college then your second choice is not a choice you should consider or be your “fall back”. To be required to pay within 24 hours or sign an agreement without being comfortable or excited with your decision is wrong. It’s a hard sell that will not benefit either party. A “hard sell is a no sell” in my opinion. This is soccer not life.

haha. ECNL showcase/playoffs are 2 months after the tryouts.

                      You have 2 options really:
                      - tell your current ECNL club you are leaving at the end of the season
                      - watch your kids play time drop to 0
                      - watch parents from your current team attack you on an anonymous board
                      - tell the club you are staying
                      - pay the "deposit at both clubs" preferably with a credit card and try to claw it out
