The top colleges will only recruit from elite leagues and those leagues are severely limited in their player pool by the family incomes of the players.
Top colleges will only recruit student/athletes. This is not a revenue generating sport like football and basketball which takes athletes first, students second. Top colleges criteria of athletes for women’s sports like soccer are based on how well they will adapt at a full time matriculated student. They base that on grades, Test scores on SAT/ACT as well as AP, Honors programs. Before my daughter was offered a commitment or official visit she had to submit all this information to the university for approval. We are not as you describe a high income family.

I look at the families on D's team and it seems pretty solidly middle-class. A couple of upper-middle-class and a couple who qualified for the club's financial support, with everyone else being pretty average. So the question I have is: what is considered "well-off"?

The recruited athletes are impressive hard-working students and athletes. That was not the point of the discussion. The point if the discussion is why is our current system not producing more pro quality players to replace our aging stars. And out elite leagues cut out a large percentage of players from the start.

Exactly. If there was any money to be made in pro women's soccer, the system would change. But the current incentives in the system explain exactly why it is the way it is right now. Always follow the money.

PDA Shore ECRL is a better product then CSA GA. Better training, better league, better brand, better exposure. Can’t debate facts.

Yes but is very club and coach dependent - a mediocre ECNL club will probably have even more mediocre ECLR teams. The competition in ECLR is very weak too.

PDA shore sucks ass. The real talented kids play at MF Shore. CSA , PSA, PDA, they all fail in comparison to MF Shore. It's to the point we have to go out of state to find quality teams to play because everyone in NJ is so god awful. I really don't understand why so many parents are delusional and think their piece of ****s are any good when the truth is they all suck. WE ARE THE SHORE!

Exactly. You Joyzeyites need to realize you have PDA, and to some degree World Class. They rest is "Meh", so when you constantly hold PDA up as the example for all ECNL, you miss the point.

Agreed, PDA Shore is a great option and the league is a growing one. GA clubs are joining ECRL already if that tells you anything.

If that were true then the men's side would be better and it isn't. The entire system is broken by greed at the youth level plain and simple.

The boys side has fully funded academies. That is significantly different from the girls side.

Interesting. Can you list the clubs in the Northeast who have left GA and gone into ECNLR?

You bring up the most important point regarding women’s soccer today and that is advancement. That is on US Soccer. They are traumatized by women’s soccer and are scared to make changes with younger players. I watched the last few exhibition matches and this group needs a major over haul. The bulk of this group peaked at the last World Cup and that should have ended their run. To have players with hundreds of USWNT appearances is just wrong! Individually these players are not performing as high level players. Go watch those playing in Europe now or those who came back to the NWSL because they were not performing at a high level in Europe. The upcoming Olympics should have been the younger, up and coming rising players in this country instead of 35 year olds or players who have already played in 3 Olympics. It was okay on the men’s side to send a young team for qualifiers but not women? US Soccer needs to get younger players involved internationally.
